Teen arrested over racist threat that closed Charlottesville schools | Reuters

Police arrested a 17-year-old boy on Friday over a racist threat of violence posted online that prompted authorities to close all the schools in Charlottesville, Virginia, for two days.

The boy, who has not been publicly identified, was charged with threatening to cause bodily harm on a school property, a felony, and harassment by computer, a misdemeanor, police said in a statement.

Harrasment by computer, lol.

Better ban the sale of assault computers.

The kids didn't mass-brain anyone with a computer In fact, his use of one is caught before he did end up doing something violent.. If all people ever did was guns was harass and threanten people, we wouldn't have a significant amount of people clamoring for stricter gun regulation.

Uhhh, that kid has friends...lots of friends.

Although I believe this is the work of some demented racist idiot, it wouldn't surprise me if it turned out to be another fake hate crime.

There's been so many instances of fake hate crimes over the last several years, that you just can't dismiss the possibility.

That can't be real. This contradicts the narrative that a crazy Bernie supporter and some angry protestors means that the left is, indeed, more violent than the right, despite the majority of politically-motivated murders in this country coming from the right. I mean, look at these guys, they may be bigoted nazis, but they aren't committing violence here they're just supporting the free-speech rights of a would-be terrorist.

That photo is from 2017, not today... If the white supremacist movement is the growing, widespread movement leftists like yourselves claim, then why do you use 2 year old photos to push that narrative?

I'm not the one who posted the picture, so you're asking the wrong person, but I'll concede that my response to it was in error. These aren't people gathering in support for this kid, and I made a stupid mistake in assumming that they were.

However, as long as we're on the subject, two years really isn't that long of a time, and I feel that it's reasonable to assume that a movement that was growing stronger in 2017 is still chugging along today--I mean, we 'Berniecrats' haven't gone anywhere, either. What we could probably both agree on is that there's quite a bit of push-back against political correctness than there used to be, for better or for worse. Generally speaking I think one would be fair in assuming that such a significant movement is going to attract different types of people to happen to be attracted to same policies or ideas. I don't have any numbers to quantify which is the majority and which is the minority, and I'm not going to attempt to do that here, but both in the cases of Trump's policies and the rise of anti-pc sentiment, you're going to have more moderate right-wingers who believe in these things on principle, but you're also going to have genuine white supremacists that are also attracted to stricter immigration policies, Muslim travel-bans, and being able to say racist **** without rebuke. Those people exist, and as opposition to political correctness grows, and as support for nationalistic policies grows, then so too will the 'really and truly, undeniablely racist' crowd also become emboldened.

Here's a free one; using the same logic as the above, the rise in popularity of social democracy may be indicative of an undefined growth of an array of different left-wing ideas, including those often used to scape-goat soc-dems.

Personally, if I were to try to make the point about the rise of white supremacist attitudes, I wouldn't use a picture of a single rally to do it. All that would do is prove that nazis exist, and wouldn't have anything to say about a rise in white supremacy.

I know the picture wasn't posted by you. It was posted by CS and came from the article he linked to, which is where my beef is really directed toward. That article gave the impression it was a new picture of racists gathering in support of the moron who made the threats.

The only reason I included your post was because you also believed, and understandably so, that the photo was a current one related to this story. I didn't think you were being deceptive, but rather someone who had been deceived.

We all at one time or another make the mistake of believing a deceptive photo or article, but unfortunately far too few have the honesty and integrity to admit that mistake... You happen to be one of those few that are honest enough to admit such a mistake, and I tip my hat to you.

That's where we differ... I don't believe that the white supremacist movement has grown at all. I think that the attacks on white people by leftist pundits, the media, by democrats in DC and by far left mobs on college campuses across the country over the last several years, have given those fringe idiots the just excuse they were looking for to be more vocal. Unfortunately, fomenting racial division (among other things) is exactly what happens when one side of the isle adopts identity politics as their chief political strategy. This is only the beginning too... Mark my words, if this identity politics crap continues, it's going to rip our society apart and literally destroy the country from within.

Furthermore, they don't look like high school kids

Stupid. How do they think they won't get in trouble for that? Stupid.

At 17 years old the human brain isn't fully developed (not until our early 20s) and we are not able to make wise, long-term decisions. That's why 'minors' are not able to do things like vote, marry, join the military, etc. They need to raise the voting age to 25. Especially in today's political environment.

I'm not sure what to make of this, except the fact that very few news outlets included it in their stories:

When asked about his race, police Chief RaShall Brackney said at a press conference the suspect identifies as Portuguese.

That came from a story on the CBS News Website.

UPDATE

It definitely wasn't a white supremacist who made the threat:

Joao Pedro Souza Ribeiro, 17, on March 20 threatened an ethnic cleansing and a school shooting, telling white students at Charlottesville High School to stay home.

...

“He stated his intention was to post it as a joke,” Markley said. “He stated, quote, ‘I didn’t even think. I was just bored in my study hall class.’”

...

They found no evidence that he has associated with white supremacist groups. Instead, she said, it appeared he had simply made the post in order to seek attention and cause disruption.

I thought it was likely either a racist idiot, or another fake hate crime... I was wrong on the former, but the fact he posted the threat on a "white supremacist" message board leaves open the possibility that he intended it as a fake hate crime... and if that's the case, we'll likely never know because admitting that would make things exponentially worse for him.

You use the word "if."

I have no doubt that the more accurate word is "as."

Most liberals are sincere people, but they simply do not understand that identity politics IS destroying this country.
