University says GOP Florida House candidate faked her diploma: report

view

Melissa Howard (left) with fake diploma.

8/11/18
School officials said a Republican candidate running for the GOP nomination in a Florida legislative seat lied about graduating from Miami University in Ohio and faked her diploma, according to a new report. Melissa Howard, who wants a Sarasota-area state House seat, claimed that she earned a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from the Ohio school. Florida political news website FLA News Online originally reported that Howard did not earn the degree, but briefly retracted their story after Howard provided a photo posing with a copy of her diploma. But after further investigation and confirmation with the university, FLA News reported Saturday that the diploma was fake. Sarasota's Herald-Tribune confirmed with the university that Howard did not graduate.

That one graduated from any institution is simple point of fact, for crying out loud. I mean, really!

  1. That woman knew when she made the claim that she lacked a degree from Miami U.
  2. Knowing that she made the claim anyway.
  3. When accused of paltering about her credentials, rather than show some modicum of honesty and own her lie, she attempted to defend its alleged veracity.
  4. She called the original allegations “lies” pushed by her opponent.
  5. She then levied vitriol at her opponent by saying he lied about her record.
  6. It took the university attesting to her not having graduated from there to obtain any.

That same general pattern of events -- lie, get caught, deny the lie, attack the messenger, await even more credible evidence of one's lie and refrain from "owning" the fact that one lied in the first place -- is precisely the sequence of events we repeatedly see presented by Donald Trump and his cohorts....The tone at the top is as a powerful as ever, detrimentally so in the case of Trump and his cronies' being at the top of his party.

As I sit here thinking about it I don’t find the answer as clearcut as I think many would. I think it depends on the type of degree and how it relates to the job at hand. I think a judge should have a REAL law degree and I think a city coroner should have a real medical degree.

But for most things later on in life what you learned getting that degree doesn’t amount to crap compared to what you learned in life and actually working.

So the issue comes the fact that she lied to the voters. It certainly looks like she lied about this. But most of us believe all politicians lie. So is the problem she was dumb enough to get caught? Or if it is the lie itself then what constitutes a lie bad enough to be given the boot?

I think we sometimes forgive politicians for their "stretchers" But doubling down on a lie, and producing a fraudulent document seems like something you'd never want your child to do, and certainly not a grown individual running for public office.

I guess its better than the GOP congressman arrested on insider trading here in NY. LOL! Told his relatives the drug company he owns had a drug that didn't do to well in trials. They sold their stock. But he did nothing wrong.

I think we can agree that if its true she is a dumbass and her political aspirations are over. But the desperation to link anyone that possibly can be linked to Trump is just...stupid. As per the article, the candidate for State Senate (how many people that run state political campaigns are even being endorsed federally by ANYONE?)is affiliated with Trump because she is a proponent of the 2nd Amendment and opposed to Sanctuary Cities.

Hell...that describes a pretty fair number of liberals and seated democrats.

Ethics and Politics should no longer be used together in any sentence in his Nation.

That’s Democrats for you man. It isn’t about the individual. Always gotta go back to the highest office in the land. Yea. Democrats aren’t authoritarians lol.

It is more cut and dried for me.

Never, ever lie on a resume.

A little 'padding' perhaps. But no lies.

  • Why not?
  • Is there some reason you have written of ethics, politics and the nation as though they are proper nouns?

They have little connection in today's politics, if they do please do provide evidence to support that claim.

  • Are the above passages ones you conceived and posted while you were stoned?
    • If yes, you should consider a different mind altering substance...one that doesn't compel you to proffer procrustean formulations.

  • That pair of questions sets up a false dichotomy.

Tan:
  • Oh, what a load of pseudo-consequentialism.
  • Whether a degree is or isn't required for any reason isn't germane. That she lied about having one from an institution that didn't upon her confer one is among the several failings associated with the woman's lying.

Bold text line of discourse:
  • Non sequitur.
    • The apparent or unapparent connection between any two terms/concepts does not create a normative imperative regarding that co-appearance in a sentence.

Just because you apply a term does not mean it is applicable.

Our politicians need to be held to a higher standard. And that includes a higher standard of lying than Howard seems capable of.

So what you are saying was that she didn’t require a degree to do her job in marketing?

Or she lied on her resume to get the job. Since you are saying the article is a lie, lets see your sources.

That’s Democrats for you man. It isn’t about the individual. Always gotta go back to the highest office in the land. Yea. Democrats aren’t authoritarians lol.

Start making sense, or head back to the comments on Fox News articles.

It does make sense. “Trump aligned candidate” for someone in State office? Are you aligned to Joseph Stalin because you are a democrat?

It is like the left calling everyone a Nazi who disagrees with them so they can justify violence against someone they disagree with.

I didn’t say it was a lie. Funny that a left leaning individual would have to require making up lies about my position to try and make a point. Quote me as saying the story is a lie lol.

Occupation: Howard co-owns International Medical Trade Show and Marketplace with her husband, Ian, and also manages their portfolio of 15 rental properties.

So basically she didn’t need a degree to do her job. Even though getting a degree magically makes you superior to everyone who doesn’t have a degree right? Is that what you are saying? Or do you dislike her because she is Jewish? A woman? Maybe she felt she had to lie to get ahead in our patriarchal society that unfairly favors rich white protestant men with college degrees.

Man. If she was only a Black Jewish Lesbian....or even better MUSLIM...the Democrats could play her off as the victim and make boat loads of money with her books and movie deals. Then run her as a candidate for a federal office

Yea. My point is this is a stupid non story that left wing hacks are trying to use to lambast all republicans. As if all republicans care. Or really...anyone. It is childish name calling lol.

Do you live in Sarasota, FL? If not, why does this matter? Does this mean that you support Tommy Gregory? Mr. Gregory seems like a good solid Republican and fine candidate to represent the fine folks in Florida House District 73.

I suspect that this story wasn't sat on until after the August 28 primary because there's no credible Democrat running.
