A North Carolina Republican running to replace a GOP lawmaker he defeated in a May primary has reportedly preached extensively on the need for married women to submit to their husbands.

Roll Call reports that Mark Harris, the Republican nominee in North Carolina's 9th District, often told worshipers at his Baptist services that women should "submit" unto their husbands as they would to God.

Is this like training a wild animal to obey to commands? I can think of a few but the women I know would just respond by giving me the Polish Regimental Salute in return.

Various biblical passages make this direct phrase, no shock that a Baptist would be preaching the same thing.

But it does take us backwards and that is precisely what social conservatism is all about.

Yea, It's a religious belief with direct passage from the bible....

"Ephesians 5:22-33 New International Version (NIV)
22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.

25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing[a] her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. 28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church— 30 for we are members of his body. 31 “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.” 32 This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church. 33 However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband."

Though it doesn't give the husband the right to be a monster douche to his wife...

North Carolina 9th District voters should look at this. As already mentioned there are biblical passages that speak to this.
Basically has nothing to do with the rest of the country other than a smear to other republicans.
What about not painting with a broad brush?

From Mel Brooks' 'Blazing Saddles': 'I don't remember reading that in the Old Testicle.'

in other words, its a two way street, not one way.

sort of, though there is a definite message that the husband is the leader of the relationship.... which is fine, that's a traditional way of looking at things. I think it's still possible for husbands to have that role and the wives to still be treated with respect as well.

while it does want the woman to submit, the man is to love his wife and do right by her.

There's a reason it's not in the Old Testament, reckon you can figure out why ??

Seems like a clear, easy to understand position.

Unless it's inaccurate, it's fair game to bring up and for voters to judge him by.

There's probably still plenty of places where that would be the smart position (heartfelt or not,) if you wanted to get elected.
