A bill titled SB-315 is set to criminalize "unauthorized access to a computer". The bill does not apply to individuals in the same household, workplace, cybersecurity, or people based on violations of terms of service.
Critics claim that it would increase, not decrease the risk of insecure servers for businesses in Georgia because it might impede on the ability of security researchers to find security holes and report them. An earlier version of the bill carried a maximum $5,000 fine as well as a sentence of up to a year but it was revised down to a misdemeanor of high aggravated nature.

As of April 5, 2018, the bill has been sent to the governor and is now awaiting his signature.
