FRANKFORT, Ky. — The U.S. Senate's top leader said Monday he wants to bring hemp production back into the mainstream by removing it from the controlled substances list that now associates it with its cousin — marijuana.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell told hemp advocates in his home state of Kentucky that he will introduce legislation to legalize the crop as an agricultural commodity. The versatile crop has been grown on an experimental basis in a number of states in recent years.

I don’t think the hemp that was used for the fiber industry back in the day has the “ho” in the yo heave ho. It’s AKA “ditch weed” with little or no THC.

Can be used for making bio diesel.
This story from way back when.
Corn farmer growing weed in the middle of the field. No one notices. Until he harvests the corn leaving the weed highly visible.

just legalize pot for adults nationwide, FFS. restrictions on hemp are a symptom of that failed policy.

states can make money on it, and they need it. that's probably what will end up being the driving force for legalization. you have to think that the states around Colorado are just looking at that whole thing and secretly drooling.

The states around Colorado are doing just fine, busting folks coming out of Colorado and stealing their money.

Everyone must always be careful on Interstate 76 from Denver to Nebraska,
where the Colorado State Police have gone rogue for decades ...

Hopefully it will go even further and be fully legalized and we can move forward with cheap medicines that can't be patented and overpriced by pharmaceuticals because you can't patent a weed or just not having people who just want to smoke a few be put in jail for a drug less harmful than alcohol.

i noticed a thread about that. however, they're still losing tons of potential revenue, and my guess is that they know it. my own state finally approved Sunday alcohol sales, and i doubt that it was simply because they were worried that someone would forget to grab beer in advance.

When it was voted on in California to be legal, the state got so greedy, illegal dope has flooded the market strangling the legal guys.

From where I sit, you wouldn’t know the law has changed except for a whiff here and there.

that kind of thing will probably happen when it's left to the states. i'd rather see it at the federal level.

Known positive medical benefits of THC products:
1. Alleviate seizures for children in any number of medical problems.
2. Very strongly supported by the very conservative American Legion for PTSD Veterans for psychotropic benefit.
3. In fact, for all Civilians with PTSD symptons, as they take the same dangerous psychotropic pharmaceuticals as Vets.
4. Helps with side-affects from chemotherapy; the munchies.
5. To be filled in by others ~~

I could have added that those who are 'high' smoke less cigarettes and drink less alcohol.
Thus, the opposition of big cig and big alky at the federal level.

We now see why big pharma opposes medical marijuana; it hurts their bottom line.
Bigpharma still controls so many prescribing mental health professionals.

If you would like, I could speak to you some time of the side-effects and interactions of THC products.
It's here to stay and tricky issues like blood content for driving, or even driving at all,
are far harder to deal with, and completely different.

Some 'legacy' mine and the older generations are leaving ...
