Exclusive: U.S. miners' union to endorse two more Democrats in coal country

closed shop
ˈklōzd ˈSHäp/Submit
noun
a place of work where membership in a union is a condition for being hired and for continued employment.
a system whereby a closed shop applies.

Which has been illegal since the 1940s. Not kind of. Not sort of. Literally illegal since the 1940s.

Words mean things. Learn what they mean before you say them.

Yeah, I don't know what to tell you anymore man. You don't know what you're talking about.

Direct experience means a great deal; go get some and then get back to me.

We are talking about an undeniable fact written in a law called the Taft Hartley Act of 1947. There’s no debate on this.

Unions and companies have signed "exclusive hiring" contracts. All new hires came form the hiring halls. In a lot of jurisdictions, the hiring halls no longer exist, but after 30 days or so, the new hires must join the union. Those are facts; I lived it, I'm still connected to it these days and I know exactly what I'm talking about.

You've never worked in a union company, you've never belonged to a union, you have absolutely no idea what the hell you're talking about dude. Your just anti union and uninformed.

No, you don't. Union shops are what you're talking about. Closed shops are illegal.

I'm just telling you the correct language to use. Union shop clauses are still legal in a little less than half of states. Closed shops, on the other hand, have been illegal since the 1940s.

A "union shop" and a "closed shop" are the same thing. "Closed shops" are no longer supported by the government, hence right to work laws, but the "effective closed shop" contracts have been existence for a long time. That's what I've been saying all along. Your pedantic approach here has done nothing but cost you credibility in this discussion. As I said, you are strictly anti union and have no idea what you're talking about.

If you wish to discuss union issues and the law with me, then I would request that you do some reading; especially on early American history and labor unions: you can start with the shoe cobblers union in 1790 and then the women's march in Philadelphia in 1825, then Abe Lincoln's support for unions, all the way up to how the robber baron age was defeated which paved the way for you to have holidays off and sick leave and vacation and health care through your employer, and over time, and retirement plans like pensions and on and on it goes.

A "union shop" and a "closed shop" are the same thing.

No they are not. One is still legal in 23 states, the other has been illegal in all states since the 1940s.

Your pedantic approach here has done nothing but cost you credibility in this discussion.

Using the correct language is easy. If you'd just acknowledged the error from the beginning after being factually corrected, we wouldn't be going around and around about this, but instead you're insisting on using the wrong terminology and denying that the Taft Hartley Act of 1947 made closed shops illegal when that's exactly what it did.

So, what have the Republicans done FOR unions lately; anything?

when Ronny RayGun fired 11K PATCO union members in 1981 the GOP effectively called for the total annihilation of unions in America

I guess folks weren't paying attention tho' ....................

now WHY in the Hell do those GOP voters believe the GOP is 'pro union?' ............ 'cause they ****ing dumbasses ................

May RayGun continue to rot in Hell ................

Unions should cease existing in this country. Has nothing to do with Reagan, and everything to do with a rational hatred for parasitic, corrupt cartels, which is what unions are.

The fact that the Left always wants to ignore is that it was the Unions who betrayed America first.

Death here represents justice.
