The local newspaper is reporting that the Kentucky Legislature is working on a bill to reduce or eliminate unemployment benefits to tens of thousands of Kentuckians. Governor Bevin has said he would support such a bill because it would attract more business to move into Kentucky. However, unemployment benefits are only granted to those who are laid off from work due to jobs being eliminated or closing of operations and people being laid off. Unemployment benefits are not available to those who are fired for justifiable cause, so how can the bill being drafted do much to affect attracting new businesses to Kentucky. The bill is simply another assault on the poor in the state of Kentucky.

Recently Kentucky announced it will deny medicaid benefits to people who are unemployed.............however it would give people the option of doing volunteer work for which they would not be compensated for the work they did and allowed to keep their medicaid benefits. Forcing people to do volunteer work to keep medical care appears to me to be a violation of the 13th Amendment to the US Constitution which states "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction."

what do we really expect; I mean it is Kentucky after all ............

Kentucky is rated # 46 in overall education in the US; they aint too smart, LOL ..........

How many poor people will put themselves on a bus and become a burden to some other state....that is the question.

Or have Kentucky give them the bus ticket.:(

That's not how poverty works.

I'm guessing DJT's herculean efforts to revive the coal industry have made these gubmint handouts unnecessary.
MAGA!!

Maybe the hope burns eternal in the hearts of those who run this state....

We have seen this with the homeless in places....make life hard for the population and then invite them to leave with free bus tickets.....St Pete Fl for instance did this for a time.

One could argue that we are doing this with Puerto Rico right now.

Kentucky is Mitch McConnell's turf and he's been very busy ruining US healthcare and working to remove all safety-net programs from Americans. Yet the citizens of Kentucky elected him.

On the state level, what do you expect? Kentucky is a red state government trifecta.

Kentucky bill would cut unemployment benefits for laid-off workers | Lexington Herald Leader

▪ Limiting how long workers can receive benefits based on the state’s unemployment rate. At the moment, the maximum length of benefits would be chopped nearly in half, to 14 weeks.

▪ Raising the minimum income a person must have earned in their previous job to qualify for benefits, from $750 over the previous three months to $2,000. Starting in 2020, the threshold would increase every two years based on inflation.

▪ Freezing the maximum possible benefit until it matches the average maximum benefit provided in Kentucky’s border states.

It sounds like an opening bid for reforming the practice since the economy is better. Many people won't look for a job until the benefits are almost gone.

I can't believe all the outrage prior to me posting the link so you can read what is going on.
