NCAA to move 7 championships from North Carolina due to HB2 law

"The NCAA announced on Monday the relocation of seven previously awarded championship events — including NCAA tournament games in Greensboro — from the state of North Carolina during the 2016-17 academic year as a result of the state's controversial House Bill 2.

The law prevents cities and counties from passing protections based on sexual orientation and gender identity."

This follows the NBA all-star game and numerous conventions, business openings, concerts, and government travel. However this is very significant because anyone will tell you the voters in north carolina care more about their college basketball tournament than anything and nothing would bring HB2 to a swifter repeal. I'm also shocked because the NCAA is known as a behemoth devoid of humanity. Well, any predictions how this will alter things there?

Err mods delete if you want since i see now there's another thread

Just to update - NCAA set to ban North Carolina from hosting events for next six years, according to report - Outsports

“Our contacts at the NCAA tell us that, due to their stance on HB2, all North Carolina bids will be pulled from the review process and removed from consideration,” Scott Dupree, of the N.C. Sports Association and Greater Raleigh Sports Alliance, wrote.

“That process will begin in the various sports committees starting in 7 to 10 days and continuing through February. At that point, we will be faced with a six-year drought of NCAA championships in North Carolina.”

6 years! 57 attempts to host tournaments in Wake County alone with be throttled, all thanks to this hateful and needless law

It's about time Duke and UNC had to play outside their state before the semifinals. If this is what it takes to make that happen, I'm all for it.

I can understand "needless", but I don't see "hate" anywhere in the law.

If we simply had a nationwide law outright criminalizing antisocial behavior such as cross-dressing and pretending to be something you're not, it would definitely be needless.

It's a pity that the NCAA feels the need to pander to degeneracy, but all the more reason to boycott that hillbilly organization which protects child molesters such as Sandusky and Frank Lombard. All the more reason I'm glad I don't watch college sports to begin with.

lol i thought that too. I recall reading that nothing would bring an end to the law than this, yet it's happening and still the courts will have to decide its fate. I guess the voters in NC just hate lgbt enough to give up their basketball fix

oh look another "newbie" sock troll i get to put on ignore

Its not about hating someone... what do you not get about that?

the state not allowing cities to ban discrimination against lgbt specifically is absolutely about hate, and if you don't get THAT you're no better than the haters in NC

The only thing hateful is that they don't allow rounding these miscreants up and putting them away - that's certainly hateful toward people of decency who're being denied the right to remove social bacteria from civilized society.

Then prove it is about HATE then. If it is about hate, prove it is hate.

Hate is an emotion, good luck proving an emotion.

You have to open up your view and stop looking for an emotion to use to villify someone you disagree with. That is why conservatism is becoming the new counter culture.

As needless as the State's HB2 law was, which I agree it was needless, Charlotte's law was just as needless, and put businesses at risk either way they went, If they violated the law they were subject to fines, if they follow the law they are subject to lawsuits.

basket hoops is a dangerous sport and should be banned. my grandson once found glass shards underneath the sittin chairs at a basket hoops game

Boycott wars will make liberalism end sooner. Trumps supporters have the highest net worth

So you admit all Trump supporters are raging bigots, about time someone did

Trump supporters are the wise ones who understands that 60 does not equal 160. An IQ of 60 does not equal an IQ of 160. Proving liberals are simply crooks and unwise minds. That is a natural security issue that will be stopped when the unwise are electing CROOKS. Only crooks want low IQ voters easier Fooled!!!

Some people just want boys in the boys room and girls in the girls room. It isn't always "raging" bigotry.

i recommend you look at what the law (it's only 3 pages, so that even a republican can read it) actually says. It protects anti gay (but not race or gender or religion) discrimination for employment

Can you please demonstrate to me, the section that SPECIFICALLY "protects" anti-gay discrimination for employment ??

Also, you didn't bother responding to my previous, now several days old, post on proving HATE.

Doesn't change that some people just want boys in the boys room and girls in the girls room.

i don't have to respond to anything. There's been threads on this for months and i've said it all there. To single out lgbt for ridicule and discrimination is hateful. I'm not going to even copy paste this or that section within the 3 pages for you that you avoid reading because you want to shut your eyes to the world and pretend nothing is going on. This thread is simply to update the consequences to the law's continued existence, before the courts destroy it

If that were true, that an entire party wants this, you would see a hell of a lot bathrooms with no gender restriction. This is so that *transgender* individuals who no longer present as the sex they weren't born with 30 years ago can use the bathroom without fear. As they had been doing without incident until republicans decided to use them for political gain. Too bad it backfired and their governor was the only republican in the entire country unseated

And the law still stands. Eventually the left will learn that if they push too hard for too much at once, the right is going to use that to motivate people not just to resist, but to push the left's agenda back further than they expected. Tis the nature of politics. Some people who just want boys in the boys room and girls in the girls room might very well have been on the left's side on other issues but were pushed too far. Gotta pick them battles carefully.

Yeah, $400 million loss to NC in boycotts plus 7 years ban from hosting tournaments and unseating the governor, that is really something we regret. NOT

The right has done everything it can to oppress lgbt for decades. The last thing we'll do is step back and allow new schemes of oppression to take off, out of fear they would do exactly what they've done all along - trying to motivate their fellow bigots. Fighting back is the only thing that can work

Maybe if transgenders weren't forcing their way into locker rooms and bathrooms in high schools this whole thing here wouldn't have ever happened. Just a thought. Actions have reactions and sometimes the reactions aren't that great.

You mean until DEMOCRATS decided to use them for political gain.

Don't forget.... this is all in response to Charlotte's own Transgender law which essentially removed the ability of businesses to regulate what goes on in their own bathrooms..... opening them up to lawsuits.
