Transphobic hospitals postpone gender reassignment surgery

Aren't most elective surgeries being postponed until the pandemic crisis has passed? Seems only logical to do so.

And there it is on the first reply...the transphobia. It's elective surgery because trans trans people have a "fetish" or are just "pretending" to be of a different sex.

Trans surgeries postponed indefinitely amid coronavirus pandemic

This is outrageous. Tansgender surgeries are literally a matter of life and death. I hope people with hospitalized corona patients take their business elsewhere. SMH.

How is it a matter of life and death. Also, unless you can point them out specifically, there are no trans people that I know of that are complaining their elective surgery is being postponed due to COVID-19. Maybe you can show us this "outrage" from you know.....actual Trans folks?

No more than someone is pretending to want bigger boobs or a smaller nose or tummy.

No one is going to die because they didn't get the trans surgery as soon as they wanted. were it a triple bypass, it would be more urgent.

It's elective surgery. It's not a life or death situation.

No they're not. There is nothing life threatening about not getting an SRS or other procedure immediately. Hell they have to go through a lot of steps to begin with before such procedures are even considered. While I agree that long term failure to address the GD issue can result in suicide, a relatively short delay, due to other more immediately life threatening conditions should not be an issue. And I get the disappointment, and even the fear that the approval might get taken away.

Seriously, what would he have done if it was something like the hospital had a fire and had to be shut down? He would have had to wait for either the facility to reopen, or an opening to come up in another facility.

No, it's "elective" because it is not immediately life threatening.

I am looking forward to @Renae 's take on this.

This is what is known as a 'straw man'. it is delayed, not canceled, due to concerns about COVID-19. Or do you want people to get infected?

As long as the people whose surgery was postponed get the first places in line instead of being told to start over at the back of the waiting list, there shouldn't be a problem.

It's not outrageous, and it's not necessarily transphobic.

Hospitals are either preparing for, or in the middle of, an onslaught of coronavirus patients. Gender reassignment surgery is important, but it can wait.

Faux outrage.
Unless a person is dying, all surgeries are cancelled.

Not enough time and resources to handle something that can be put off.
Heart about to explode? Emergency, surgery time.
Wanting to whack off your weenie? Not emergency, you'll have to wait.

Apparently AA thinks weenie removal is life or death.

Yes. The OP may not be familiar with the word "literally." Or "elective."

Calling it trans-phobia only proves how limited your thinking is.

I think the coronavirus is a little more pressing.

you can call that transphobic all you want but you're saying reality is transphobic.

lol...I've learned the hard way not to take everything this group says seriously...;)
I cringe at what it says about us as a society: that 90% of the people here take seriously a proposal to let people asphyxiate while surgeons carve up men's willies for no good reason.

I don't know how many people would approve of such a thing, but the fact that people can't tell it's satire is bad enough.

We love to take gossip and run with it...it's only human nature, I know I have to fight...

Who said anything allowing patients to asphyxiate during surgery?
