In reversal, Hallmark will reinstate same-sex marriage ads

NEW YORK (AP) — The Hallmark Channel, reversing what it called a “wrong decision,” said Sunday it will reinstate commercials featuring same-sex couples that it had pulled following a complaint from a conservative group.

The earlier decision by Crown Media, Hallmark’s parent company, to pull several ads for the wedding planning site Zola featuring two brides kissing at the altar had launched a storm of protest. Celebrities like Ellen DeGeneres and William Shatner criticized the move and the hashtag #BoycottHallmarkChannel was trending on Twitter at one point.

You know what I would like to do with conservatives & it's not fit to print here.

Glad they reversed it. Dick move to remove it in the first place.

But Ellen isn’t conservative. She’s calls herself a “gay Hollywood liberal.”

Boy, did Halmark come out of this looking cheap! Looks like they stand for nothing.

Have you seen their story lines? Sets? Actors? It's all the same all the time. It's basically a soap opera channel with characters changing setting.

What do you expect them to stand for? Serial scripts? B class acting? Fake snow?

What do you see as their essence?

And undermining the education system.

Isn't this the one where all the actors look like perfect models? Not even average people? If so it makes me puke.

It's their channel, their decision. I don't care what commercials they play as long as they deliver a gazillion predictable glorious Christmas movies.

Boycotting works. Most companies only care about their bottom line. Whether they seem to be standing for something altruistic or standing for something bigoted. Wherever the most pressure and bad press is they will follow.
Social media has really changed the game...

And their lead actress got busted for buying college admissions.

The channel is plastic. Completely. It, by nature, stands for nothing.

I like their Christmas cards. Problem is the Hallmark closest to me closed down and the only other Hallmark store in the city acts like anybody other than a little old lady who walks through their door is a shoplifter. They will literally follow people around staying right on top of them even after they say they are browsing. It is quite annoying especially since the store is small and hard to navigate to begin with because everything is crammed together.

LOL. Just another example of how, no matter what someone does, some group is certain to be offended. I know Hallmark, Chik-fil-A, Starbucks, Papa John's and other businesses seek to make profits, but by taking politically controversial positions, they risk alienating half of their customer base. Hallmark is in a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" position.

Well, that's their job basically, to put out garbage, samey Christmas movies. In fact, I'm suprised they even removed these commercials, seeing as the tide of opinion has turned on gay marriage, and now companies want to pretend like they're all woke now with the LGBT crowd.

I guess thats a real hallmark of the movement's success

I don't see conservatives or religious people boycotting and yelling on social media over this new Hallmark decision, so Hallmark and other companies will continue to cater to the smallest of small groups as long as theyre loud. Conservatives and religious people will not get what they seek from companies until they become loud, which is not there style.

Isn't that how it usually is? A small group of loudmouths drives the narrative? In this case we have LGBT on one side (about 4% of adults or 9M) and One Million Moms (closer to 30,000) on the other. Even totaled, the noise generated by both groups is less than 5% of the total adult population of the US yet they are driving the programming of a channel which has 85.5M subscribers.

Yup cause the other 95% just sit there and take it.

Since you missed it:

Hallmark ran an ad featuring a lesbian couple. The American Family Association, which is a right-wing / socially conservative / fundamentalist Protestant group has a division called "One Million Moms" that is used to routinely protests against LGBT representation in ads and media. They protested a lesbian couple in a Hallmark ad. Hallmark pulled the ad, then people were upset that it got pulled, so it was reinstated.

By the way, AFA / OMM protested the Roseanne reboot, Doc McStuffins, H&M ads, Highlight for Children magazine, Ellen DeGeneres' role as a spokeswoman for JC Penny, Campbell's Soup, Marvel and DC comics for LGBT representation.

Social conservative groups don't have a "style" of "not being loud." Many groups routinely protest against ads, media, and corporations based on what they find offensive. Sometimes they get noticed, sometimes they don't. Sometimes companies cave, sometimes they don't.

It's not just about being loud. Companies are making all sorts of calculations, ranging from what management believes is right, and the number of people who are genuinely upset by one position or another.

More likely they just don't care. After all, do you watch the Hallmark channel? Did you see the ad? I didn't. I'd have never known about this little dust up if it wasn't for this thread. You?

??

Care to expound?

The face of the network was busted for buying college admissions apparently as the head of a conglomerate of admissions bribers.

On March 12, 2019, Loughlin and her husband were arrested in connection with an alleged nationwide college entrance exam cheating scandal, charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud, and released on bail.[2] On April 15, they pleaded not guilty.[4]
