Colorado parents upset high school teacher assigned sexually explicit material without their consent | Fox News

A Colorado high school is under fire for assigning sexually explicit material -- which contained vulgar language and passages about sexting with minors -- without parental consent.

Brett Cason, the father of Skylar, a 16-year-old student at Steamboat Springs High School, was shocked when his daughter told him about the sexually-charged graphic assignments she had in her "Music Literature" class.

Ryan Ayala, the teacher who crafted a lesson around the poem "Howl" by Allen Ginsberg, apologized in a letter to the Casons saying it was the "most offensive" material covered in his class, after he didn't get parental consent requiring students to fill in blanks such as "f---ed in the a--" and "c--t," and other lewd language. The poem was in a book approved by the school board, but Ayala had students fill in the censored parts of the poem.
I wonder what this pervert Ryan Ayala was thinking. Most fathers would like to rip the face off a guy like that.

Uh, that poem was written in 1954, so I'm not sure how it has anything to do with sexting. I don't see why the teacher made them fill out the censored parts of the poem, though. That's a bit odd to me.

Yes, that poem is most inappropriate for high school students. Sounds like Ayala and the school board both dropped the ball here.

A galactic understatement; the nerve of the teacher to even teach that poem. He's a pervert.

Let it to you to try and defend the indefensible.

The article says that this poem was a problem, as well as a poem about sexting. The article, if true (because you never know with Fox News on this stuff) sounds much worse than just the blurb posted in the OP.

Yeah, I see it now. That's my mistake. I'm not seeing the benefit of the lesson, besides it being weirdly entranced with emphasizing explicit stuff for no real reason. Like, what's the point of asking for the symbolism for granite "cuck", or whatever? It's like the lesson is intended for them to say the explicit stuff (like the filling out part), which is pretty odd to me.

Were you unfamiliar with words like that at 16 ?

Brett Carson is just being stupidly naive.

The portion of the article quoted in the OP was poorly written. I thought the same thing til I went and read it.

I would say this poem is more appropriate for a college audience as that level of schooling is better for potential controversial subject topics (at least those who are not historically controversial like A Raisin in the Sun or Fahrenheit 451).

I am less concerned about the explicitness and more about the fact that the poem seems to have no academic point. It doesn't appear to have any social commentary or whatever else that would be useful in a school setting.

holy triggered batman

????? why do you lie so much. No where in the post you quoted was there a defense .. LMAO is it dishonesty or just pure ignorance that made you post such a factually wrong claim?

Not a lick of outrage that this pervert had the balls to dare teach this **** in school. Oh, it's just weird, why did he have them fill out the blank parts. Who give a ****, this asshole is a pervert, and went full pervert in class. If you can't see that you're hopeless.

You're known for defending every nut that comes along. The ignorance is yours, because you have low standards. Seems you're okay with exposing children to just about anything.
