Austin school district trustees early Tuesday unanimously approved a new sex education curriculum that, for the first time, will teach elementary students lessons on sexual orientation, gender identity and sexually transmitted diseases.

For more than a year, district administrators, parents, community members and advocacy groups grappled with what to teach elementary and middle school students. The Human Sexuality and Responsibility curriculum has not been changed in a decade for elementary students and in seven years for middle school students. Under the new curriculum, educators will also teach lessons on healthy relationships, puberty, pregnancy and reproduction.

“There’s no doubt that the topic of sex education in public schools elicits strong reactions,” board member Kristin Ashy said to a room filled with people after listening to over three hours of public comment Monday night. “Tonight offers itself as an example of these reactions.”

Wonder if there will be a class on "How to avoid being sexualized as a child"? Another case of how the desires of a few outweigh the concerns of the many.

My elementary school had enough trouble teaching everybody how to tie their shoe laces

OMG! They're teaching kids that gay people exist too? And that not everyone is heterosexual? And how everyone can be safe during sex, regardless of sexual orientation?

Grab the pitchforks boys! We gotta put a stop to this! :2mad:

The curriculum once provided by PPH wasn't radical enough. Didn't start in the third grade either.

Fortunately parents are allowed to opt out of this normalization indoctrination.

It must be fun living in that alternate-reality of yours. You can join us here at any time.

Those are certainly important life skills for the typical 10 year old to practice in their daily lives. Was the ASD school day/year extended or was something else removed from the curriculum to make room for this more important subject?

Im not really seeing the point other than a political one being made by the school. I wonder how these same people would react to these same children being taught how to propperly handle firearms.

I am also curious about exactly what they are teaching them. If the school presents it in an objective fashion that neither encourages or discourages it I'd like have no objection to it being introduced in the classroom of older children.

As if being a tyrannosaurus rex before lunch, and The Rock after isn’t enough, they have to wear a dress and tiara to get an “A”.

We have a similar problem in California with the school districts trying to groom our children to make them more tolerant of perverts making sexual advances.

All I can say is, leave the kids to be kids, and let the teachers go live out their guilt on people their own age.

Good news...the parents of gay kids pay taxes the same as the parents of straight ones...and wouldn't it be nice if the next generation of straight kids learned early to remove the stick their parents have driven up their ass over something that gay kids can't change about themselves. Maybe less gay kids will kill themselves as a result.

Always gotta look for the bright side, bud.

Gay people don't exist! We're a mirage!

Gay people don't exist! We're a mirage!

Oh yes, all those people who think they are lesbians just need a 'Real Man' tm to show them how sex really is.

Gay people don't exist! We're a mirage!

*sigh*...sadly, some folks actually feel this way. The gay ones, I mean. Much easier to talk yourself into ending it when you feel you don't exist anyway.

Sorry, I know this was meant to be flippant, but I've seen it too many times. Hard to make folks understand the downside to the blood on their hands when they like the feel of it.

Why next the schools will make so that children are tolerant of people cheating on their wife's with pornstars while the wife is pregnant. Imagine the world when that happens. Immorality will be accepted as the normal.

Teaching that gay people exist? "Gay people exist" is rammed down people's throats 24/7 on TV, in the press, on the news and on the Internet.

At what age do you think children should be taught about anal sex and at what age should children be taught how to be in sexual relationships? Age 8, 10, 12? What age do you want to sexify children?

Be specific.

I have some bad news for your sheltered viewpoint. Elementary school kids are not only exposed to sexual situations, they are having sex. When do you want to begin educating them?

My opinion on this is quite different from most people. I think teaching little children about relationships - gay or otherwise - is just the government trying to control those children's lives for the rest of their lives with the moral codes of the year. It is government indoctrination.

Included in this then is my opposition because I favor great levels of relationship and sexual freedom on an individual basis - and the schools will NOT teach that. Instead, these courses teach that everyone should be in a monogamous committed relationship - though don't get married until at least 25 - and that gay marriage is the same as heterosexual marriage.

For this, they teach how a child MUST act in relationships in fine detail, drawing a hard distinction between males - as predators - and females - as victims.

We have some, not much and none anymore, conflict with the schools over our children. We refuse to fill out any psychological questionaires about our children - as one example. There has only been one time it has to do with teaching about relationships - and the school agreed to take our child out of that class. That particularly child is gay and our family is not of a traditional design within the parameters of what is taught.

The notion that some teacher is going to teach and test our children on how they should behave in relationships, how they should see others, etc is completely intolerant to us. Our children are in school SOLELY for academics. ZERO of that has to do with sociology. The school learned some time ago not to battle us. If they do, we instantly go political with it to a public session of the school board - and we fight to win (and always do). There is nothing we won't do to protect our children.

There was a curious side effect. Because we so intensely focused on academics in relation to school - while we taught everything else ourselves - the solution the school found was to put our children into a public charter school for academically advanced children. Accordingly, unlike the regular public schools, the charter school is singularly focused on academic education. It also meant the teachers most focused on academic education are put at the charter school. Wannabe social manipulative teachers who like to chat and talk about their own values, life and beliefs are left in the regular public school.

This ended the occasional battles with the school system. It also means my children are going on to be academic and increasingly personal life and career superstars, while the PC corrected children tend to stay living at home and working a WalMart, dreaming of some day attending the community college - if they ever stop being so stoned they'll find to time to get around to it. Simply, in life's competition, my children cut thru to the head of the line past the PC kids like a hot knife thru warm butter.

Heaven forbid a school ever teach a child how to have a financially successful life. Teaching kids they have to really, really, really go out of their way to be a friend to all gay and trans people doesn't help a kid. Teaching kids how they must act in relationships assures their relationships will fail, regardless of what the kids are taught. To most school administrators, all kids are just an endless herd of cattle, each with a number on it, nothing else. We never allow the school system to victimize our children within their cattle drives.

There is no practical reason for teaching an 8 year old about sexually transmitted diseases. So I don’t know, maybe the State shouldn’t be teaching these things until the age the law says they can legally consent to sexual activity and leave the rest to parents.

Because parents have been doing such a bang-up job throughout history?

Because parents have been doing such a bang-up job throughout history?

With the human population approaching 8 billion it would seem that parents have been doing a fairly decent job. The exception is for people heavily indoctrinated into PCism. The more they are so indoctrinated, the more they solely live for their own material enhancement and pleasure, deciding having children is too expensive and too much work.

The corporate-progressive fascist ideology of the new Democratic Party is that everyone exists solely to serve their company and the government. The purpose of life is to service a corporation and/or the government. To this you are to live, think, and do everything and nothing else but what you are told to do for the good of your company and the good of society as the atheistic/fascist government and their employer dictates. Having children is contrary to those goals - so they don't.

As opposed to what? The State being complicit in statutory rape?

Handing out condoms to under-aged kids should be prosecuted as conspiracy to commit statutory rape as an accomplish.
