But this is my point. You want prostitution outlawed even though you have not personally experienced it.
I think football destroys a life for many....but that is their choice
Reciting personal experiences on this forum has particular value nor do I care to make this topic about me. On another thread, in part, I mentioned my "experience" with prostitution and prostitutes. I have taken prostitutes to the hospital. Seen them bleeding. Beaten. Slashed. Disfigured. Sometimes, not often, I was one of the men assigned to hunt down the man who did to assure what happens to him is far worse than he did to her as one aspect of my employment for over a decade. Some of the women were friends, even close friends.
Though it varied, the evolution of each was fairly similar, depending how much drug usage and addiction might become involved. It did not take long for a seeming fast-track exciting life bringing in some - not a lot - of money would instead because a hardened, calculating, manipulative person. Cynical. Some would become quite corrupt, as in thieves if the man was dumb enough to let his guard down. As another member mentioned, they aged quickly and poorly. Most were raped and beaten - or worse - along the way. Contracting STDs was not rare. Nothing she could really do if the man refused to wear a condom, even if told up front she required it.
The only protection she had was hoping the man feared someone would come after him to really hurt him if he really hurt her. Men who regularly came to the club knew that, because they would see what happened to a man who would violently slap or hit a woman. Within seconds, that hand would be on a broken arm. REAL world prostitution is a world of drugs, trashy people, violence, degradation, extreme dangers.
None would have ever been willing to get a prostitute license, fill out government forms or give the government a cut of what the made out of it. It's just stupid for anyone to believe even 1% would do so. Once brothels are excluded from the topic, and that isn't and wouldn't be 1/10th of 1%, people claiming legalization - meaning the opposite in adding regulations - would protect prostitutes is ludicrous. It only would protect the men - the johns, the pimps, the predators, those who would engage in sexual harassment. Of the men, some I knew, none would ever go to a brothel.
To be clear, I have NO issue with prostitution either as a moral or religious matter. I do not want prostitutes arrested and locked up. I do what prostitution off the streets for the dangers of it and the dark sides of it. If operating out of nightclubs, this keeps kids away from prostitutes and visa versa. I recall they did one study and found about 1/3th of prostitutes on a redlight district street were HIV positive. That was a favorite location for high school boys to lose their virginity. The response was the police taking the position that ANYONE who possibly was a prostitute along that stretch of road at night would be immediately taken to jail, making clear if the hookers would stay in the bars they wouldn't be hassled.
Adults can opt to risk getting HIV, TB or any of the other communicable diseases. School kids, no. I also recall when one of my children was in for the pre-enlistment physical and told of a young man sobbing, having learned for the first time he was HIV positive, also meaning couldn't enlist of course.
The topic isn't brothels. It is legalizing prostitution.
Your turn to tell about your "experience."
