1 in 16 U.S. women say first sexual experience was rape in their teen years

Yeah it was leftist propaganda. And people in that part of the political spectrum think sexual offenses aren't motivated by sexual reasons.

There seems to be an idea that rape is motivated by the expression of exerting power and that might also provide an additional motivation in some rapes

I'd say sexual desire is still the #1 motivation though.

I disagree with that position. a person can exert power over somebody without engaging in any sexual activity. the fact that it is sexual means that it has sexual reasons.

I think the idea of it being about power comes from the psychology of the victim. It's very common for a victim of sexual assault to blame themselves. But I don't think that that's correct either.

The active rape is always criminal regardless of whether the perpetrator was sexually aroused by the victim in some way or not.

That there are alternative ways of exerting power doesn't remove it as a motivation for rape

Victims may well blame themselves

e wonder with amazement how bullying victims often choose suicide.

But the motivation to rape is sexual.

It's typically linked to depression

But the motivation to rape is sexual.

I would say that's the main cause but not the only one:

"Causes of sexual violence are debated and explanations of the cause include military conquest, socioeconomics, anger, power, sadism, sexual pleasure, psychopathy, ethical standards, laws, attitudes toward the victims, and evolutionary pressures..."

Caused by a sense of hopelessness.

A few are actually driven to extreme violence if they have the means.
