I want my partner and I to be able to have the same legal protections and benefits as any other couple who have been together for 14 years and I don't care what you call it, marriage or civil union, either on works for me. I don't want to lose my job because I get an a-hole boss who doesn't like those "fagg*ts." and lastly, not to have to worry about a health care professional refusing to provide necessary medical care to me because of their "religious freedom." ... That is pretty much the extent of my gay political activism.

I haven't heard of any health care professional refusing that?

Sounds fine to me.

Well, let's see.

Thanks to the SCOTUS decision in Obergefell v. Hodges, 576 U.S. ___ (2015) you have a right to marry. It is now 2019. Simply go and get married. :)

It remains true that sexual orientation is not specifically protected from discrimination under the Civil Rights Act. However, the EEOC under the Obama Administration asserted that Sexual Orientation and Transgenderism were protected under the "Sex" provision. Currently there is a 6th Circuit case allowing protection pending review by SCOTUS: R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Homes Inc. v. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Homes Inc. v. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission - SCOTUSblog

Once SCOTUS rules, that should resolve at least whether Title VII of The Civil Rights Act of 1964 does protect under the "sex" restrictions, or if Sexual Orientation and Transgenderism require Congress to amend the law.

Medical care refusal based on religion? Have you actually been refused medical care by a physician because of your sexual orientation, claiming it was against their religion to treat you? That would surprise me, although I assume from your concern it has happened to someone somewhere. I know that there have been some physicians who refuse to perform abortions, and some State's that have been doing their best to limit abortions in general. But doctors refusing common medical treatment merely due to sexual orientation, that I'd be interested to hear.

I have always been a supporter of individual rights to do whatever with one's own body and with consenting adults. This includes same sex marriage, trans surgery, whatever.

That sounds absolutely reasonable to me.

I agree with the first part and end part.

But the middle part you cant really control unless someone is REALLY REALLY stupid and reveals their hand publically. In most places in America they can just fire you for no reason at all. You can replace the word "faggot" with just about anything and if the boss said that publically they would be removed from position. "I fired him cuz I dont like fat-asses"; "I fired him cuz I dont like women"; "I fired him cuz I dont like men", "I fired him cuz I dont like Republicans".

Which of those have happened to you or your partner? Be specific.

In other words you want the government to violently force people to cater to your abnormality

Actually that’s what people like you want. Normal people don’t throw a hissy fit over who someone else loves.

There was nothing in that suggesting the use of violence or catering to anything.

Yes there is. Any government mandate involves violence because if you refuse long enough the men with guns squad is deployed

No, the do not. No violence has been used in legalizing same sex marriage.

Equate tolerance to education levels ?

The more you are exposed to various personalities, ideas, facts, beliefs and worldviews at colleges, the more liberal and tolerant you are. Whats ironic is that as i neared my graduation at Liberty University, the less conservative I got. :lamo

No government mandateincludes violence.

But Mao was right on that score, political power comes from the barrel of a gun.

As a greater proportion of people in the USA have found than any country in the world.

The more you know, the less you believe.

I've got quotes from you where YOU recommend violence to force people to accept YOUR values.
I've got quotes where you express comfort with a theocratic government, or a monarchy, or where you expect to see all left leaning values criminalized.

So let's stop pretending that you have ANY interest in politics AT ALL, because you don't!
For you, politics is a "Christian Taliban enforcing by decree" (in YOUR case, a papal bull) and backing up those decrees with incarceration or worse.

This is ridiculous. Why are you even on a political debate forum at all, you should be planning the overthrow and the installation of your theocracy, not pretending that you tolerate any form of debate.

Is denying homophobic religious bigots the ability to discriminate against pothers catering to an abnormality? How are you being forced to agree with people?

Do you desire the ability to harm people in society because of your religious beliefs?

Where did Jesus tell you to act in this manner because you have previously claimed to be a Catholic?

Wait, what? You went to Liberty University?
Tell us more. If that means making a new thread, link to it please, because I am actually quite fascinated to meet a former LU alumnus who came out the other end as a left leaner.
Of course I am sure that you realize that is mighty rare, or is it?

BTW one of my very very dear friends is not only an Oral Roberts grad, he wound up working as head of security for them for about ten years. He's now a proper lefty.

We joked about it because I enjoyed his friendship even at the height of his right-oriented leanings. He's the same guy today as he was when we first met, personality wise. One day about two years ago, he just popped up on my Messenger and said:

"Holy ****, have I turned into a libtard? I think I might have!"

Took me about five minutes to regain my composure and I called him up:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You're still Steve B, far as I can tell, it's just that you seem a lot kinder and more relaxed.
Oh trust me Jeff, I was wound up pretty tight these last few years. It led to a kind of breakdown, and then I realized that it was like that Leon Russell song, "sitting on the highway in a broken van". I was sitting on the highway of life in my broken van, and I needed to start making some changes.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
---Well, he made those changes, but they were so gradual and so organic that at first, most of his friends didn't really notice until maybe a couple of years later.

Is that how it worked with you or did a switch just flip all of a sudden? I ask because, for me, aside from a slight gradual embrace of a couple of conservative views, I'm still pretty much the same as I've always been.

My oldest brother is something of a camp follower and he's been like a pendulum all his life, swinging between the two extremes and never settling down in the middle. He was an extreme Left campus radical in the Sixties and now he's a full-tilt ultra-Righty now. He went from extreme Left to extreme Right, in the space of two years or less.

You? :)

Actually they had great math and CS programs. Science classes were great. Go figure.

Refusing service to someone in a commercial setting is not harm.

Where does Jesus command accommodating someone’s mortally sinful behavior?
