Cancer and Oral sex

My point is that if oral sex is dangerous, then we should stop doing it. At least that much should be obvious.

If oral sex was dangerous half of us wouldn't be reading this because we would be dead from cancer. More like Douglas should not have tongue punched dirty prosties.

All sex is dangerous. You just as likely to get oral cancer that you are to get vaginal cancer from the same virus.

Do you think people should stop having sex completely because it is dangerous?

Well, that would obviate his objection to abortion.

Of course, the HPV vaccine will reduce the chances of oral cancer by over 90% if you get it early enough. One more reason to get kids vaccinated.

I remember back about twelve years ago they were trying to get young girls in Texas vaccinated for this and it became an uproar.

I didn't understand why.

Because of 'freedom', and the influence of the antivaxxers made people worried about side effects. A lot of 'stories' came out how it interfered with fertility and made girls sterile.

It's scary to think anti-vaxxers have that much influence over otherwise normal rational people. To think this is all rooted in some idiots desire to make his own measles vaccine.

Not doing it right? ;)

For her, any excuse will do, and the hand flies. :) Usually, she's beginning to feel frisky. Often when I want to nap. A-syncopation. :doh

One more reason for adults to be vaccinated. Not just oral cancer, but penile cancers and cervix cancers.

Is this something in adults can be vaccinated for?

Yes. Speak with your doctor. I believe you first need be tested for presence of HPV or antibodies. If you carry, it is too late, if antibodies exist, no need. Some have antibodies passed from parents, usually mother's breast milk. However, like other virulent viruses, it can hide dormant within the system indefinitely, before poking its ugly head up. Specific proteins found in the blood can declare its presence, even when dormant, at times. No 100% efficacy tests. And HPV is not protected against with condom use. Medical science is not 100% certain as to how the virus is passed when sex is not involved. This is why the inoculation is so important for young children who are obviously not yet sexually active.

I'll personally do some research on the dangers of oral sex tonight and let you know what I find out tomorrow.

I suspect your conclusions are going to give mere lip service to the issue and the overall report is going to suck big time!

You have to be uninfected, most adults are infected with one form or another of hpv. (It doesn't have to be sexually transmitted)

Re: the OP....worth it.

I came across this little bit of information about a possible connection (and a cost) to cancer and oral sex. Here it is, from actor Michael Douglas:

Still totally worth it.

Michael Douglas was a long time smoker.... But yeah, seems way more likely that giving face was the reason. ;)

I'm thinking because the pearl-clutching puritans felt it would encourage young people to have sex sooner than later.

My girlfriend's gonna be back on Thursday. I'm going to need to test this hypothesis as well.
