Should incest be illegal?

Hello. This thread is inspired by Dixon01767's exchange with certain posters in the gay marriage thread here.

I believe that in some jurisdictions, incest is illegal. My questions to you, are 1. should incest be illegal and 2. are laws that forbid incest discriminatory?

Let's share our thoughts.

Sexual contact between consenting adults is no one's business but the people directly affected.

Yes, it should be illegal everywhere. Incest is considered bad in every culture for good reasons since the beginning of history. This naturally leads to laws and regulations against it everywhere in the world. Consider it as evolution and natural selection. It’s well known that having offsprings with close relatives increases risk of genetic and birth defects by significant amount in just one family. Incest families would not survive in the wild back in the cave man era because they would not be the fittest to survive. In a world of over seven billion people, there’s no reason for blood relatives to be sleeping together and risking all these things.

Two people with the same genetic disorder run a high risk of passing that disorder on to their offspring. Are you prepared to make it illegal for them to procreate?

I most certainly am, 100% But that would of course be part of the illegality of incest, wouldn't it.

Uh? So if they do violate the law and have children as a result of it then you'll force an abortion?
And what about people who can't bring children anyway? Should the law apply to them as well when this is the reason you're using, or is that fine?
And what about gay incest sex? Gaycest? Can't bring children that way anyhow, so it should be allowed right?

If they're two adults and they knowingly agree to sleep with each other it's not something that the law should intervene at.

The purpose of laws is to deter those people who are incline to engage in incestuous behavior. Abortion after the fact, and implantation has occurred as a result, sure why not? Do you really want more children dependent on the government for existence, particular one with genetic defects or gross physical anomalies?

If the government will start controlling what kind of children get to be born and what kind doesn't it's a bit of a slippery slope don't you think?
I believe it's up to the parents to decide.

And the question remained unanswered; should a law banning incest also be applied to gay incest and to those who cannot bring children?

1.) yes in most states it is but the punishment and what constitutes as "incest" varies

2.) no sex acts should be illegal between CONSENTING ADULTS, its nobody business.
but at the same time you wouldnt see me fight for to removes these laws but i also wouldnt fight against them if there was a moment

3.) yes but its not an illegal discrimination or violation of civil rights that im aware of

But homosexual incest doesn't carry that elevated risk of genetic disorders.

Nobody seems to want to make exceptions for homosexual incestuous couples, or for infertile incestuous couples. This demonstrates rather conclusively that "genetic disorder risk" isn't actually the reason they oppose it. It's retroactive justification for their moral disapproval.

Way to go contradicting yourself here after saying that the reason you object to incest is the health of the offspring.
I think it'd be much better for you if you'll just be open about your actual views instead of trying to create reasons that you think will be more acceptable around here.
