This has been in the news, so here's the letter from the Catholic mother of four boys:

The legging problem // The Observer

and to find scarves to tie over the eyes of their sons to protect them from you!

Our Catholic sons need to be protected from girls wearing leggings. :lamo

And the awesome response:
She told them leggings were too suggestive, so they wore them in protest - CNN

ALL HAIL WOMEN IN LEGGINGS!!!!!

I don't commonly wear leggings, but by golly do I support anyone who does. **** you, Catholic lady.

I don't really wear leggings out in the world unless I have a long tshirt to cover myself but best believe I've got my nice comfy pair on right now with a tank top. I only wear the long tshirt out so I feel comfortable not because anyone else may feel unconformable because they can't control themselves.

All hail plankton!

I prefer most munificent lord and master of humanity, ruler of all I survey, Grand Regent of Man caves, Imperial hand of creation, defender of the sacred virgins ( not so much anymore), liberator of pilfered Little debbies, and conqueror of the mysteries of ladies medicine cabinets.

But, you can call me Bob.

Women can hang their assets out all they want, I absolutely don't particularly care. However, like I tell the girls, you have the right to hang your assets out in public all you want and nobody ought to touch you over that. That said letches old and young alike will be ogling your ass, and men and women will be making snide remarks some of which you will be able to hear. They have the right to do that. So if you whine over people ogling you in your leggings, thong bikini, speedo, burka, paper bag, pasties, jock strap, what have you, as the great Samuel L Jackson is want to say, "Bitch put some ****ing clothes on." "What part I don't I don't give a **** about your feelings do you not understand?"

I take leave with a song in my lecherous ogling heart.

Of course, it is easy to just turn this article into a joke and laugh at it, but I actually think the author makes some valid points and adds some valid micro-criticism to a socio-cultural problem that if of a larger, macro-size - Oversexualisation, promiscuity and the decline of self-respect.

Or.....you can just let people wear what they choose and get on with your own life as it does not affect anyone except in their own minds.

But, Im kinda radical like that.

Hey Jeff.

Where did I ever suggest that personal choice of clothing should be dictated from "top-to-down"?

I am an individualist and I oppose all forms of socio-political micro-management. Obviously, each indivudual has the right to wear whatever they may prefer, but leggings are hardly an expression of individuality, but rather one of collectivism as it is a fashion trend. And fashion is part of a larger socio-cultural interaction which means that a society that is oversexualised and obsessed with ugliness will breed fashion trends that are overtly sexual and ugly.

Care to list a few?
Well, there are mainly three quotes in her article that, according to me, highlights a very important issue in contemporary society and those are;

1. "[We live in a]world in which women continue to be depicted as “babes” by movies, video games, music videos[.]"
2. "[W]omen should be viewed first as people — and all people should be considered with respect."
3. "But I wonder why no one thinks it’s strange that the fashion industry has caused women to voluntarily expose their nether regions in this way."

I would trace these issues back to the Sexual Revolution that was supposed to "liberate the female sexuality", but which instead turned out to do the very opposite and female sexuality has now become so inflated that it is, literally, not worth more than a swipe of the finger against a screen.

1) We live in a world where women can be elected as leaders of their country.
2) Where is it (in the western world) that women are viewed as something besides people?
3) How does the fashion industry "cause" women to do anything?

1) We live in a world where women can be elected as leaders of their country.
And this is connected to my post in what way exactly?

2) Where is it (in the western world) that women are viewed as something besides people?
I guess it depends on your definition of "peoplehood". The author's argument is not that women are not regarded as people, she is only raising the question about over-sexualisation and objectification.

3) How does the fashion industry "cause" women to do anything?
It does cause them to be "fashionable" and "fashionable" is not always synonymous to self-respecting.

People will often times see the world in the way they wish to see it.

The author doesn't give a fig about women. She's concerned about her poor boys. That's part of what's so funny and sad about her ridiculous rant.

It does cause them to be "fashionable" and "fashionable" is not always synonymous to self-respecting.

Women can't make choices on their own? They're robots who only buy the things the industry tells them to buy?

Who decided that ladies that wear leggings have lost their self-respect? Where's the data to support that?

And again, the author isn't writing anything regarding her concern for ladies.
Her issue is SHE doesn't like it, and that her poor poor sons must be having great difficulty dealing with it.
She is saying that her sons are victims, and that she is too.

And this relates to my post in what way exactly?

Her overall point is indeed a bit pathetic, but - as I pointed out in previous post - she does lift some interesting points and it is mainly those that I decided to pick out and focus on.

Women can't make choices on their own? They're robots who only buy the things the industry tells them to buy?
Where did I say that? I am not biting this red herring you are trying to serve to me.

Who decided that ladies that wear leggings have lost their self-respect? Where's the data to support that?
Where is the citation supporting that I ever suggested that to be the case?

And again, the author isn't writing anything regarding her concern for ladies.
Her issue is SHE doesn't like it, and that her poor poor sons must be having great difficulty dealing with it.
She is saying that her sons are victims, and that she is too.
That is why I said that her micro-criticism highlights something that is part of a broader macro-issue, namely over-sexualisation, the normalisation of promiscuity that comes with it and the inflation of female beauty, degrading the woman to nothing but an object.

I remember watching a video where this fellow was talking about men wearing tight pants. He actually believed it was a conspiracy perpetrated by gay men so they could ogle all the straight men wearing them

It was really strange and kind of gave away where his mind is when he sees a dude wearing tight pants.

Some guy named Anthony Morris who's some high up in the watch tower organization.

I think some of these people had their damn minds in the gutter.

Or.....you can just let people wear what they choose and get on with your own life as it does not affect anyone except in their own minds.

But, Im kinda radical like that.

But it does affect people. The culture of over-sexualisation is solely responsible for the tremendous tragedies we're seeing today - abortion, abandoned children, high divorce rates, broken families, AIDS, rape, violence and sexual assault against women, and so on. It's foolish to simply pass this off as an individuals fashion choice when those choices are part of a culture that is completely detrimental to society.

I have no problem with women wearing anything but I can accept why some people would. After all, I'm sure you wouldn't support someone's right to wear a KKK or Nazi uniform in public. Even if it may be legal, it's a toxic, and self-endangering thing to do and should not be encouraged or glorified.
