No more than anything else that becomes a ppart of us. However, I don't buy the "born this way" argument. I say it's the way were were raised, and the nurturing as we grow up.

As I hope you know, I respect your opinion, your knowledge, and you - I'll disagree with you on your view on racial issues, but that doesn't mean I won't have a beer with you at some point.

As for the 17 year old, I agree with your analogy. However, at some point, even the pimple faced teen will grow intellectually to the point so as to be able to determine that what they are feeling isn't misplaced or ill-defined emotions, but rather a hormonal or other biologically driven fact of life for that particular individual.
