A British man has been diagnosed with what some are calling the world’s “worst-ever” case of gonorrhea – a strain that is reportedly resistant to all antibiotics normally used to treat the disease. This report is a confirmation of one of our greatest fears — untreatable gonorrhea could be on the very near horizon at a time when rates of the infection and of STDs overall are at record highs in this country. When we see a case like this in the U.K., it’s not a question of if, but when we’ll see it in the U.S. And once it’s here, it could spread quickly.
Antibiotic resistance is one of the most significant health threats globally, and Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has identified antibiotic resistant gonorrhea as one of the three most urgent threats in the realm of drug resistance in the U.S. That’s in part because gonorrhea is so widespread — more than 800,000 infections are estimated to occur in the United States each year — and left untreated, it can cause serious and sometimes life-threatening health problems, particularly for women.

Maybe that Sex Ed position of "Do it with a Condom!" isn't work out so well, maybe toss in a "Stay virgin till you're married if you can help it and be monogamous" would be a good message to ALSO add...

I prefer "take the entire course of antibiotics, even if you feel better".

Humans will get STDs, no matter what you lecture, and especially in the face of "abstinence only" teaching.

We should work to eradicate these, and many other common, treatable illnesses. Only way you do that is with some public spending on health care an education, without religious kooks, anti-vaccers, etc., slowing it down.

Remember, some significant percentage of people get STDs when they are young or through child abuse or rape. Preaching "abstinence only", or "use a condom", will never help these individuals.

These are simply bacteria and viruses that have been around since forever. Our health care on an organized national level is so archaic, it makes me sad. All that health data we have could be used just like C.A. used facebook data, to help solve world health issues...but we have it so locked up, and on paper records, etc., that it boggles the mind.

From my observations condom usage has become shockingly rare. It seems to me to be an overshoot from all those years we were pretty much straight up lied to about the risk, the risks being inflated and sold hard trying to manipulate folks into using them.

Generally speaking we dont like to be lied to, or as some Lefties call it a "Well Intentioned Falsehood"

This message was brought to us by the people who want to cut sex ed.

According to the chart on page 12, the South has the highest rates of Gonorrhea. The chart on page 5 shows the south has the highest rates of chlamydia. The chart on page 23 shows the 5 of the states with the highest rate of syphillis are in the south.

One of the best comments on the abstinence-only propaganda I've heard in some time is: No, abstinence-only does not always work.

First of all, unlike promoters of comprehensive sex ed, promoters of abstinence-only generally discard evidence that works against them and cherry-pick that which does.

Second, abstinence-only incorrectly assumes that nearly all teenagers who commit to it will stick with it all the way to their wedding night. Reality does not match up with that. On average, abstinence-only does not decrease teen sexual behavior, and it most certainly increases the transmission of STIs.

So if we want to clamp down on STIs, abstinence-only crap is the absolute worst way to go at it.

I mean.... the south has more black people.... and they have STDs at a rate of 4-6 times higher. I also assume there is a correlation among poor populations too, and the south is historically more poor.

Funding priorities should be cancer variants and diseases not predicated on life-style, rather than sexually transmitted diseases.

NY and CA are right in there with them.

https://www.stdaware.com/blog/which-state-has-the-highest-std-rates/

Next we should look at the demographics.

Blacks lead consistently for cases in Gonorrhea-2016

Black men lead for cases in Syphilis - 2016

Remember this from the past?

Hey there swingin' bachelors
Are you tired of the steady drip
Drip, drip of Gonorrhea?
Then Peter Rooter's just what you've been looking for.

Peter Rooter, that's the name
You just flush your troubles
Down the drain
Rotten Peter, rotten Peter, rotten Peter

So what?
What about not qualifying those Americans as black or poor and just say they're Americans?
Now, find solutions.

Why? What do the 'demographics' have to do with it? Is it less of a problem, less serious, knowing it's mostly Black Americans and not, you know, regular Americans?

Condom use among unmarried men in the US between ages 18-24 are at about a 26%, the highest it's been since WWII when condoms were distributed to soldiers for free. Over the last decade condom use in this age group has increased 3.5% annually, the highest growth rate of usage since 1946.

Condoms do not protect against many stds and there is also about a 6% rate of failure because of misuse (wrong sizing, inadequate application for coverage, use of petroleum jelly lubricants which destroys the latex). Most antibiotic resistant forms of Gonorrhea can be treated with combinations of sulfur drugs provide discovery is during early stages. The problem for some is that there may be no visible symptoms and can only be detected with blood tests. Gonorrhea has been known to be self clearing, defeated by the immune system. For those strains which cannot be cleared, the advised therapy is treatment of the associated diseases which cause the damage.

The most commonly infected users are males and females over age 50, who are as a group the least likely when single to use condoms.

Those in true monogamous relationships have an almost 0% infection ratio.

Gonorrhea can lie dormant in humans for decades and remain undetected even with blood tests. It can also be transmitted from any exchange of body fluids, not merely during sex. Parties have been infected during blood transfusions when the donor had a dormant infection.

Individuals claiming abstinence show a .045% infection ratio, higher than the mean for the general population. The highest ratios of infection appear in Asia and SE Asia. So consider skipping that sex tour of Thailand.

I think the veiled warning has to do with miscegenation...you know, "race mixing"?
I knew celticwar is a very big anti-miscegenation fan but I had no idea Trix was.
Sorry folks, too late.
I am married to a white lady now but in the past I've been with almost a dozen black girls, not to mention asians and native Americans, too.

I'm like Captain Kirk, if I was on a spaceship and some green alien chick liked me, if she's hot I'd be going for it.
I'd be getting it on with a green alien chick.
How about it guys, what's the STD rate for green chicks from outer space?
Should our daughter stay away from the black men?

I heard they smoke that reefer and play jazz music, too.

Wait.... what?

I was simply explaining the statistic... the person I replied to was implying it was politics that had something to do with it.... when it's actually demographics that plays the most significant role.

Politics? 'Sangha' said it was about 'sex ed'. I didn't see anything about politics in his post.
An why does demograpics matter? We're talking about Americans, right? Americans who live in the south.

Maybe politics is not the correct word.

Sex ed!.... I am saying the south rates of STDs could not be a function sex ed, but instead a function demographics... and poverty. Because if a certain population has significantly higher numbers of STDs, and this group of people tend to live in a certain area... the averages in that areas would be skewed to that demographic. Could be the same for poverty...

Could have absolutely nothing to do with sex ed.

It's because they're black. I get it. But they're Americans first. There's a public health issue that needs to be adressed, yes? One that might become more serious if this virulent new strain shows up in America.

What are you saying? Because they are black? Who are you even talking to?

All I am saying is that there is not necessarily a correlation between sex ed and higher gonorrhea rates dude, those statistics do not necessarily mean that, it can be explained by other factors... that's it... you have got quite a imagination lol

Then what do you mean by the term 'demographics'? You said the rate of STD's was a function of demographics. You mentioned poverty, too, but made the distinction between poverty and 'demographics'.
Let's not bull**** the troops. 'Demographics' means race. Right?

Uhhh yea? I thought that was obvious? Since black people have a significantly higher rate of STDS in the USA... and more black people live in the south. It would scew the numbers in the south. It is simple math....

I am simply stating facts disproving that just because the south has more gonorrhea, does not necessarily mean that it is because of less sex ed.... there are demographics that could be the cause of the difference, and yes, one of the demographics is racial.... poverty could be another one.

What do you not understand? I disputing that lack of sex ed is proven to be the cause based on that statistic ....nothing more, nothing less.

I know what it has to do with, the lack of available clinics.
I am not ashamed to confess that I contracted "a case of the clap" many decades ago. (1970's??)
It happens, and my lucky number came up, I guess.

I went to the local clinic, which cost me couch change, and the doctor examined me, confirmed that I had the clap, and put me on a prescription for strong antibiotics, AND...he gave me a handful of them and instructed me to take the entire handful all at once, to START OFF, and then to finish the course till the rest of the bottle was empty without fail "if I didn't want it to come back".

"All of them?" (I stared at a dozen yellow and black capsules in my hand)
"Yep, take all of those right now, and then take two a day, once in the morning and once at night, until they are gone."
"Okay, here goes."

I took all of the yellow and black capsules and gulped down my water, and left the clinic and headed toward home, in rush hour traffic.
And then it happened...

About twenty minutes into my bumper to bumper crawl back to my place I felt a rumbling in my gut and an enormous pressure wave, like a tsunami. It was unstoppable and suddenly I felt an EXPLOSION, and then I was suddenly sitting on what felt like an enormous load of warm crap underneath my buttocks, and we were still crawling at 5-10 mph, and it was about 90 degrees outside. :lamo

It took me about another ten minutes to get back to my place and I waddled in, and sure enough, that megadose had triggered a violent crap explosion in my drawers. It was epic and nasty beyond words.

But the good news is, my case of the clap was gone in about another day or so and I finished my course of antibiotics from the community clinic, something that might not be readily available in some of the poorer communities of today.

And I learned an important lesson about being very careful with whom I hook up. That was my only experience with STD's, thankfully.
Thanks to my personal driver's seat **** storm, it's a lesson I will never ever forget!!

OMG, they're BLECK!
