New York's vaunted Metropolitan Opera fired music director emeritus James Levine after an investigation found evidence of sexual abuse and harassment, the opera said on Monday.

Levine was suspended by the Met in December pending the investigation.

In a statement to NBC News, the Met said, "The investigation also uncovered credible evidence that Mr. Levine engaged in sexually abusive and harassing conduct towards vulnerable artists in the early stages of their careers, over whom Mr. Levine had authority. In light of these findings, the Met concludes that it would be inappropriate and impossible for Mr. Levine to continue to work at the Met."

Does the fact that he's a great conductor even matter?

This **** has been going on long enough, treating people badly because one can. No longer, the game is up.

Levine also had professional posts with the Cleveland Orchestra, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Ravinia, and a lot of others overseas including Vienna, Salzburg, Munich, Berlin. The guy was world renowned, and at the very top! What the hell?

Merit doesn't matter, only feelings above a long-ago series of incidents?

You saying all of this has no merit? That is bold my friend.

Does the fact that he's a great conductor even matter?

Yes. He should be stood outside in a lightning storm.

But seriously, no, it doesn't. He's shown he's unable to undertake his duties with the required professionalism.

See Pervnado - Harvey Weinstein, Louis C.K., Roy Moore....Who's Next? And Why? We have to balance the seriousness of the offense, how long ago it was and, yes, merit. People like Andrew Carnegie, the Rockefellers, and even George Washington and John Adams weren't nice people but they accomplished something. And I'll add Henry Ford to that list even though he was a raging anti-Semite and I'm Jewish.

So on a scale of mildly successful businessman to Mark Zuckerberg, how meritorious do I have to be before I'm entitled to your body? Would Donald Trump be entitled to rape you, or is he only successful enough to grope you?

The idea that success entitles you to other people is exactly why we're in the position we're in now. Being rich or famous shouldn't exempt you from being a decent human being, and nor should it compromise the right of others to be free from unwanted contact.

I'd say we're in a pretty good place. The greatest country in the world, reasonably happy. Compared to the DPRK certainly.

That does seem to be a contributing factor in these circumstances.
