First Transgender Woman Able to Breastfeed Baby Without Undergoing Surgery

Sounds like you have a sincere concern about the health of this mother. What expertise do you have that would contribute to your understanding of the health risks to her?

Umm...she's an adult who can make her own decisions in life...the baby can't...

If a trans woman is breastfeeding this child and the mother allowed it the mental health of the mother is probably pretty poor. But why would you even bring her up?

A male capable of producing enough breast milk to nurse a baby is clearly a sign of hormones being way out of whack.

Males if they identify as female or not aren't capable of producing breast milk.

That's not an answer. You seem to know more than the health experts who have worked with this woman. Or are you just offering what you personally think?

Not enough info for me to judge. If they just pumped her with enough hormones until she lactated and allowed the baby to nurse without further testing, that would be wrong. It is difficult for me to believe doctors would condone that. If however the bread milk was thoroughly tested and was comparable to regular mother’s milk, including equivalent hormone levels, then I can’t say it would be unethical. But it would require some very thorough testing.

I know that everything a mother ingests goes through her breast milk to the infant...that's all i need to know...when I breast fed I would not even take a Tylenol...

Do you really think she would have done this or her doctors would have given her the meds if there were a danger to the baby?

There are stupid people out there who should not be parents...

That doesn't answer my question.

BTW, you guys in the US pump cows full of hormones, then drink their milk. Why is this woman an issue?

Umm I don't eat cows pumped with hormones...

So you're just offering your personal opinion. Got it.

Trying to find the Christian love in this statement, Elvira. If someone loves their child, and are doing all they can in order to ensure their well being, what else do they need? Something like this would not be done without a doctor's supervision...and I expect that there is a lot more doctor supervision going into this child's health than many of the people you would see on the street with their babies, and not think twice about.

So you are denying there are stupid people out there who should not be parents? Not ever doctor does the the best thing for their patients, either...some would rather make a name for themselves...

I'm not denying it, I just feel like that wouldn't be my first assumption based on what's presented here, for the reasons I listed. Why is it yours?

I guess because I am a mother who has breast fed so I know the dangers...this seems like a needless, selfish thing for this person to be doing...putting their own desires of breast feeding ahead of the welfare of their child...

My wife had a very difficult time breast feeding ... just couldn't produce enough. So she tried formula...the little guy was allergic. So, she began to make her own. She put in all kinds of stuff, bit of this, bit of that, researched from this place and that place, and he was good - healthier, happier. At no point in any of this journey was she without doctor supervision, every step along the way she was scrutinized, which of course is what she wanted, to ensure she did nothing wrong.

And she would be what would be considered a "normal" mother. Do you think the doctors overseeing this would go easier on a transgender person attempting such a feat? My guess is that at no point whatsoever was this child at risk, and far less at risk that kids born to parents who are assumed to be competent because they are cis. So, I gently suggest that "putting their own desires of breast feeding ahead of the welfare of their child" isn't an issue.

OR the doctor could be out to make a name for himself...time will tell...I just hope it is not at the expense of the child...
