Nearly half of women have experienced "period shaming"

I was a public finance director in SoCal; great fun to be in a management meeting with directors of fire, police, and public works, only to be laughed at and shut down with the comment to ignore me, because "she gets like this when she's on the rag."

So yeah. It's a thing. Has been for decades.

You should have shamed them back; in polite society we refer to it as "riding the cotton pony"

It's not totally out of reason, as transgender people use the bathroom of their choice in California, and a transgender man might need tampons while in the men's room.
