Is this an attempt to normalize Pedophila?

Please tell me this is not an attempt to normalize more mental illness?
Didn’t watch it all (and I think I’ve seen it before) but I’m confident enough to say this is not an attempt to normalise more mental illness. Incidentally, none of the things you’re thinking of when you say “more” are in any way relevant to this.

It actually seems to be an attempt to properly treat paedophilia as a mental illness rather than a thought crime or, even worse, ignoring it entirely until after children have been harmed. I can’t imagine anyone rational objecting to that in principle.

It's a video about a guy who represents a group of people that are attracted to kids but never act on it and want people whom are attracted to kids to seek therapy and counseling.

How is this normalizing mental illness? What part upsets you?

Warms the cockles, dunnit?
Such lovely tinkling background piano music.
Got through 3 minutes of that before bailing.
I guess the idea was to convince everyone to not be judgmental.
I suppose you can see it as a call for normalizing abnormal behavior.
There must be a movie screenplay in there somewhere.

Well, thanks for your completely uninformed opinion.

Maybe you can give me a movie review for a movie you've only seen the preview of.

Not really.

All this video does is point out there are people with sexual desires to children, but don't act on them because they know it's wrong. And they encourage other pedophiles to follow suit and seek therapy. Until we find a way to eliminate the cause of pedophilia, I'd say this is the next best thing.

I was talking to a guy visiting our state from Alabama. Older guy. It was right after Moore lost the election. He was telling me how he didn't understand what all the hullabaloo was about. He told me that back in the day, most parents of 14 year old girls would have been honored if someone of Moore's stature had taken the time to hit on their girl.

I changed the topic.

The truth is that in certain places and times, this kind of behavior was not, and is not, that big a deal. There was a time not too long ago that if a girl was not married by 16 she was considered to be an old spinster. They even compared Moore to Joseph, as you may recall. Because, after all, Mary herself is estimated by most Biblical scholars to have been between 13-15 years old when she was pregnant.

But being gay in those times now, on the other hand... now THERE is some real sin!

The world and its culture are changing, and some people are getting caught in the gears and crushed if they refuse to turn with it.

That has nothing to do with the peadophilia the op is dicussing. The video refers to psychological peadophilia where a person has sexual desire for a prepubescent child. Where as a teen at the age of 14 is past that stage. What you are refering to is called legal peadophilia where the government has set an arbitrary legal age as to when a person can have sex. The peadophilia of this video would have no interest in grooming a 14 year old as they would be at the limit of acceptability.

The only reason as to why women were getting pregnant at what is now considered such a young age is because there chances of surviving a pregnancy were better when young. The older a woman got the less likely she would live through giving birth.

Yes, I've heard of this site before. I don't think so.

The position of this man, and "Virtuous Pedophiles," is that pedophiles should remain celibate for life, if they are unlucky enough to have no attraction at all to adult people. That is hardly a "normal" life. It's a very restricted one, actually, which excludes a vast array of what we consider normal relationships and activities.

Rather, they are trying to make pedophilia understood as a thing that will continue to exist, and that we should find better avenues for helping these people before they ever offend, and indeed, regardless of whether they ever would or not. I mean, surely nearly all of these people would much rather be living a life in which they at least had the option of consensual relationships.

I think that's a worthy goal. At the end of the day, ignoring them and keeping them hidden away where they can't receive treatment or volunteer for study is not going to help us reduce child molestation, now is it. That's something we can only do if we can actually find them and treat them. And for that to happen, they have to be able to seek help without fear.

I can't tell you that. After seeing the video, and his opinion when he describes himself in such glowing terms, it just seems like that is exactly what it is. Is it any wonder in this day and age?

Without watching the video, because **** that, did you ever stop to think that normalising mental illness is a good thing? Many mentally ill people go untreated because of the stigma that surrounds mental illness and being treated for it. If we normalise depression, and anxiety, and other illnesses like that, the social and economic impact of them would be much reduced. Imagine, if you can handle it, that the stigma around being a clinical paedophile was removed, and instead of people sitting in the dark and jacking off to child porn, they sought professional help, realised their behaviour was harmful, and never actually offended? Your stance, that mental illness should be shunned and stigmatised, leads directly to harm, for people with mental illness, and potential victims of those.

YES, thank you... Normalizing Mental Illness is great! My problem is people will not accept these disorders as Mental Illness unless it suits them at the time! IE; need special programs, benefits or medication I have mental illness, then 10 mins later they're no mentally ill they're born this way!

Its utter nonsense
