You are conflating two separate issues. When you are on the job you say to the customers whatever the boss tells you or you leave the job. If you boss forbids the use of Merry Christmas, then you do not say it. If he tells you to call every customer ma'am regardless of gender then you do it. What you do when off the clock is irrelevant to when on it.
Thats the whole point, isnt it. It isnt a genteel question of coo-ing at folk and calling them what they want to be called. It is literally a matter of imposed legal restriction...something we have seen imposed in Canada and the UK and are seeing imposed in the US as well. While leftists sit around claiming oh...its harmless...its OK...dont worry...there are in fact people pressing legislation mandating it.
The only legislation I'm aware of is on care homes and hospitals against deliberately and repeatedly misgendering someone (which can only be a form of verbal abuse, no different to calling a black patient "stupid n****r"). Clearly that means the organisations have to ensure their staff follow those rules but frankly anyone incapable of showing that basic level of human respect shouldn't be involved in care anyway.
Nice to see that you are at least honest enough to admit without the stupid qualifying dance that yes...in fact already states are passing legislation targeting hate speech for refusing to call someone by their preferred gender pronouns. Some cant even muster that.
