Abortion rates in the United States have fallen to a historic low, according to the latest data compiled by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The CDC report, which was released on Wednesday, found that the abortion rate nationwide dropped two percent between 2013 and 2014 amid the use of more effective contraception, the shuttering of many abortion clinics and an overall decline in pregnancy rates.

“Following nationwide legalization of abortion in 1973, the total number, rate, and ratio of reported abortions increased rapidly, reaching the highest levels in the 1980s before decreasing at a slow yet steady pace,” the report states. “Nonetheless, throughout the years, the incidence of abortion has varied considerably across subpopulations and remains higher in some demographic groups than others.”

Every baby saved is a baby saved. Thanks, WCH :)

This is all thanks to better accessibility to birth control and programs that instill career goals in young women that were not available 30 years ago. Among other things.

It seems as though we're actually learning something here. Glad to see the numbers dropping.

This should make every person in the USA rejoice. Thanks for the post.

Great. I am abundantly thankful that more women have access to preventative care and education, despite what a hard fight that's been. I hope it remains.

Awesome thank god for places like Planned Parenthood that arguable do more than any other org in this country to prevent unwanted pregnancies, education and expanded healthcare.

Hopefully with more education, more places like PP springing up and working to make healthcare even better the number of unwanted pregnancies will continue to go down. We are actually very good at not getting pregnant. I dont think it has a lot of room to improve since less than approx .01% of sex results in ends in pregnancy.

Gee, it's not as if many of us haven't been posting this information for years now.
It's data from 2013-2014.

We've known this for quite some time.

Pro-choice works.

Sex education works.

Contraception works.

Imagine how low those numbers would be if certain groups and certain people would join the enlightened, and rigorously support the concepts of better and more comprehensive sex-education, safer and easier to afford birth control, birth control that's covered by health insurance, male birth control, implantables, free birth control, and so on.

And yet SoCons still fail support access to sex education and contraceptives.
While previous reports cited a decrease in sexual activity among teenagers for the declining abortion rates, recent studies have found that sexual activity in that age group has actually increased, but so has the use of more effective contraception methods like the IUD coil, the birth control pill and injection, as opposed to condoms.
