Is there actual truth to this?
Or is it just a god-damned sitcom comedy?
Or both?
Is this hyper-sensitive idiots just looking for something in anything to cry about?
Thoughts?
I don't think they're being hypersensitive pointing it out, nerdy and geeky males are pretty misogynistic. But they are misogynistic for a completely different reason than the standard asshole. It's more of a reflex mechanism, the reason the Big Bang Theory gets away with lampshading misogyny is because it's guaranteed that those guys got the reverse of it their whole lives.
From puberty onward, the more geeky, nerdy types are harshly judged by women. Think of the quintessential nerd asking a girl out, and having the girl laugh at him. Think about everytime you hear a girl saying out loud, I just want a nice guy. And have the nerdy sidekick that's been giving her emotional support out of unrequited love step forward to only be shot down. And those are just some mild examples, nerds have had it rather rough. And that is starting to change, women have started to consider nerds and geeks acceptable and desirable mates. The kid with the biggest MTG collection is the most popular these days. But the ones that already grew up, had years of either being completely ignored or outright ridiculed by women they showed an interest in. It put a chip on their shoulder and forced them to keep their distance, wanting but never receiving. Which leads to objectification. All of their interactions with women til recently had been in the world of fantasy.
So it's pretty common for nerds of a certain age to be misogynistic, we're only now noticing it because women as a group decided that the intelligent, quirky type is preferable to the self labeled alpha male type they favored for so long and finally started giving nerds the time of day. They start interacting with the geeks, and nerds, who have no experience with what women are really like. And the nerds try to poorly emulate their fantasy versions of themselves. Using fake alpha-male borderline sexual harassment. Because they think that's what works, because they've seen it work their whole lives, from afar. They don't get the context. Women like attention, they just don't like attention from men they would never date. Anytime a guy tries to pick up a woman, it could be seen as sexual harassment technically. But, it's not harassment when they're interested in you. So you have to walk a line between sexy and offensive. And that line is different for every woman.
What we're seeing is women shifting their preferences, and nerds panicking with this new found attention and making a fool of themselves. But it's still not as bad as what most women are used to. If you look to the younger people, nerds that are growing up without the stigma of being a nerd, but rather the celebration of it. You will find very little misogyny.
On the flipside, as more women are moving toward nerdy geeky types, the self styled alpha males being left behind are going insane. They even have a group on reddit, and call themselves incels, short for involuntarily celibate. Where they mostly bitch about beta males taking all their women. Why their wives divorced them, for a beta male, and how hard it is finding a new one because of feminism. They make up alot of men's rights activism groups to. It's hilarious.
