According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data, there are 9,000 new cases of throat cancer diagnosed annually that are potentially related to HPV.....The No. 1 risk in contracting oral HPV and developing HPV-related throat cancer is having multiple oral sex partners, .....Women experience less HPV-related throat cancer, researchers say, because they may have developed an immunological response to fight off cervical cancer. Men don’t have the same immunity.

This raises a few questions for me. The first for women.
Can women justify recieving oral sex knowing they may cause cancer?
Secondly for the anti smoking campaigners who want to label cigarete packets with cance warnings. Should the manufacturers of underwear be made to label their goods with the warning that the contents of their product may cause cancer?
And last, a question for christians who still think aids is gods way of saying homosexuality is a sin. Is throat cancer gods way of telling us oral sex is a sin?

Gardasil. Vaccinate yourselves and your children.

I can justify it easily. I've already got vaccinated for HPV, and I don't have more than one sex partner.

So I'm good.

The evidence doesn't show that oral sex causes cancer.

It shows that contracting HPV in your throat increases your risk of developing HPV-related cancer.

The problem is the sheer number of people with this disease:

About 79 million Americans are currently infected with HPV. About 14 million people become newly infected each year. HPV is so common that most sexually-active men and women will get at least one type of HPV at some point in their lives.

But who knows if the oral cancer risk is really that serious. You'd expect lesbian women to have high rates for oral cancer if this were all true, but I've never heard such a thing.

True and it also shows that ..The No. 1 risk in contracting oral HPV and developing HPV-related throat cancer is having multiple oral sex partners, ..

Already covered that one, Women experience less HPV-related throat cancer, researchers say, because they may have developed an immunological response to fight off cervical cancer. Men don’t have the same immunity.

Well, the article in the OP states that women are less likely to contract oral cancer than men are.

Hooray for me. ;)

I do believe that God, in His infinite wisdom in creating us, knew what He was doing when He warned mankind not to partake in such acts...same with AIDS or any other STD...monogamy has its advantages...

Are you saying that women not receive oral sex but not deny it to their partner?

Yes it does. I don't get why some people have multiple sex partners.

I'm fine with just one girlfriend; I don't need 8.

While it certainly is your right to believe as you will, sickness is not, in any capacity, limited to polygamists and sodomites.

True but it sure cuts down on the chances of some illnesses...

Thanks for the info. :peace

While I respect your faith, I find the bolded in your statement over the top.

Fidelity, not necessarily monogamy, at least as far as this particular topic goes. A poly unit that got together and were clean to start with and do not go outside the unit, has no more risk of developing any disease or cancer, than a monogamous couple who were clean to start with, and does not go outside the unit.

Because not all partnerships are about sex, they're about the relationship. My husband and wives and I are not together as a poly unit because of the sex. In fact, among us, only I and one wife engage in sex with more than one spouse. I have sex with both wives, and she has sex with both husbands. The other wife only has ex with me, and not the other husband or wife, and the other husband does not engage in sex with me or the other wife. There is no rule to this, BTW. There simply is only a romantic attraction among all of us and the sexual attractions are otherwise limited. See my thread regarding the differences.

Gardasil. Vaccinate yourselves and your children.

Do they do HPV vaccines for adults? And are they effective long after you became sexually active?

The vaccine wasn't around when I was a teenager, so I never got it. I've never had a doctor suggest I get one now.

Um... It's not just women who can transfer HPV via oral sex, and women also get other types of cancers from HPV like cervical cancer? So, can men justify receiving oral or vaginal sex knowing it may cause cancer? Is that god's way of telling you that vaginal sex is a sin, too? Well, gee, that makes no damn sense at all. Isn't that how we procreate?

Also, women get less cancer than men do as a general rule, for reasons related to our hormonal and immunological factors. So, apart from breast and female-specific cancers, women get less cancer than men across the board. That isn't unique to throat cancer.

Also, HPV is common even in people who've only had one or two sexual partners in their entire lives. It transfers through skin contact. You don't even need to have oral or vaginal sex to get HPV.

Easily solution to this: get the damn vaccine. Problem solved.

I mean, you'll probably still get HPV; there's like 60 different strains of it, and almost everyone has at least one. That's why it's absurd that so many people still portray this as a "slut's disease." Literally, your grandparents probably have HPV.

But the vast majority of HPV strains aren't dangerous, and the vaccine will protect you against the dangerous ones that cause stuff like cancer.

For the record then. You are saying that god created these things as a warning to people?

No...He created us for a particular purpose...pro-creation...and He knows our make-up...so He gave warnings for our own good...

Ok then. How about this.

HSV-1 is the strain of herpes we call "cold sores." 90% of people have this -- some people just don't have visible symptoms. Most of us catch it as children, often from our own parents, or from the toys of other children that they may have put in their mouths.

A significant percentage of people with genital herpes actually have HSV-1 as a result of oral sex, or any behavior where your saliva touches another person's genitals. Genital herpes can be either HSV-1, or HSV-2.

Explain to me how that would make sense, in a world where god only "punishes" people with STD's for doing "bad" sexual things.

Explain to me how, in that framework of god, it makes sense for a person who has only ever had sex with their spouse to wind up with genital herpes, because their spouse caught HSV-1 from their parents giving them a kiss when they were a baby, and then gave it to them in their genitals during sex.

So god is punishing them for waiting for marriage and staying totally monogamous?

How does that make sense?

By the way, if a mother is having a herpes outbreak during childbirth, this can cause the baby to become seriously ill, and possibly even die (these days, doctors will perform a C-section to avoid this complication, and we also have antivirals to prevent outbreaks, but obviously that wasn't an option Ye Olde Days).

So god will kill their children, because that had monogamous marital sex for the purpose of reproduction?

Explain this to me.
