No real surprise here, at least not to me. But, now it's official. The most dangerous place for a woman is in the home. The most dangerous person, her male significant other.

The CDC analyzed data from 18 states, finding 10,018 female homicides between 2003 and 2014. Over half ― 55 percent ― of cases where circumstances were known involved domestic violence. In 93 percent of those cases, victims were killed by current or former intimate partners: boyfriends, husbands, and lovers. The other 7 percent of victims were female friends, family members, first responders and bystanders who were killed during a domestic incident.

While the facts seem shocking at face value, they’re not surprising or new.

It is already well-established that women in the U.S. are far more likely to be killed by an intimate partner than by any other group of people.

Why is this in Sex and Sexuality?

It sounds like husbands are less likely tho kill their wife than live-in boyfriends who are mooching off their girlfriend's welfare check

On the other hand 79% of murder victims are male, so maybe that is not saying much.

Perhaps. I certainly believe marriage leads to a more stable relationship. So, it stands to reason that married men are much less likely to kill their spouse than is some live-in bf. I doubt the welfare plays a role though...unless the bf seeks the lifelong benefits with three-squares per day and free medical offered by the penitentiary.

After all, they almost always get caught.

I wonder, if it will be the same with homosexual brides.

? Domestic violence is about violence. It doesn't matter who the two people are involved.

I actually think it does matter. Women are generally weaker physically. They tend to think differently. And men tend to be more aggressive. It would be interesting to learn they differences in male on male and female on female domestic violence. And compared to male female. Not to condemn. But to learn. I would be curious about men because it could be all over the board for a variety of reasons. Where I would be surprised if females had a higher rate.

But we also know that woman on man violence tends to go under reported.

Oh, male on female is by far the most reported. Does female on female domestic violence even register at 1%?

I thought it was about wives being killed by their hubbies. So, in this thread it is all about the two people involved.

It's actually intimate partner homicide, specifically men murdering the women they are intimate with. Let's not soften it with euphemisms. K?

What euphemisms?

You left out that Lesbian couples have by far the highest per capita instance of domestic violence. And anyone being murdered has a 90+% chance of knowing their murderer.

Is it really 90%. Anecdotally, it's way more than half in my life. Two women by their husbands, one by her bf, a cousin shot playing cards, a friend and his neighbor shot by two of his employees, and one of my former neighbors stabbed during a fight at a party by someone we both knew in high school. Stranger killings were just three, maybe four. I'd have to think about it--no, one of them was hit over the head by someone he knew too.

In a previous career I was a Law Enforcement officer. I remember from training the stat that over 90% of murders were committed by some one the victim was closely acquainted with. That class was decades ago but I would bet lots the stat is still valid.

Yeah, I certainly do not doubt that...especially in non-gang related murders. And, even then, they probably know each other.

When my friend and his neighbor were murdered last winter, I knew the cops would solve it within a few weeks because around here it is almost assured that the murderer will be someone the victim knows. They solved it within a week.

Damn who do you hang out with? I don't know anyone who's been murdered.

Very few live-in boyfriends of welfare moms are deep thinkers

They are losers to begin with because they never thought beyonod 5 minutes ahead in their whole life

Of course, that has nothing to do with women being murdered by their husbands... you know . like some murders like Robert Durst and Calvin Harris.
