Why are men avoiding the altar?

1. Because they can: Men used to marry to have sex and a family. They married for love, too, but they had to marry the girl before taking her to bed, or at least work really, really hard to wear her down. Those days are gone.

When more women make themselves sexually available, the pool of marriageable men diminishes. “In a world where women do not say no, the man is never forced to settle down and make serious choices,” writes George Gilder, author of "Men and Marriage."

Scoff if you wish. Call me a fuddy-duddy. But how’s that new plan working out?

If women don't expect or want men to take care of them, then the flip side is that women aren't going to take care of men. So why the HELL marry?

Wait. I know. Most women eventually want to have children, and for that they know they need some help, so they go to a convenient man, usually the guy they are currently sleeping with, for a proposal of marriage. Perhaps these men know all too well that women initiate the vast majority of divorces — anywhere from 65-90 percent, depending on demographics. And when they do, they take the kids with them and hang hubby out to dry with the help of a court system that’s heavily stacked in their favor.

So, tell me. Why would men get married? What's in it for them?

There is the matter of respect too

Men used to respect woman who maintained high standards for themselves and considered it an accomplishment to win the woman of their dreams by making her their wife

But modern feminism has ruined that arraingment between the sexes

What makes you think it's not the women who rather not get married?

Why women don't need to marry:

1. They can now earn their own living
2. They can now raise children without needing to also raise an immature man
3. They can now travel, buy property, run for office, etc. without needing to ride on the coattails of a man
4. They can now own guns, learn to shoot and no longer need a man to defend them
5. They can now screw who they want without needing to commit to or move in an over-controlling nutjob who won't put down the toilet seat

And in cases like me, I don't even want to get married to a man in the first place, because I play for the other team! :mrgreen:

Perhaps they were raised in an enviroment with a Mother who didn't particularly care about them or like them too much. Who knows, either way they have issues.

Yup. Both sexes don't' really get anything out of the arrangement anymore. Well, women do get someone to nag, which is something.

There has to be something to gain out of making the decision. If there is nothing to gain and everything to lose the action has no reason to be done.

I posit that it is men who want monogamy--not for themselves, but of the woman. That is the primary driver for men to get married or form an exclusive relationship: they do not want their woman to be available for other men.

Simple fact is, a good looking woman has options in men. She can bang anyone she wants at any time. Men do not really have that option. They have to seek and work pretty hard to finally land one, especially a really good looking, intelligent one. When they finally get her, they want to lock her in. That's why men kill women who try to leave--"If I can't have her, no one will." It's a weird thing we have...probably the result of millions of years of evolution.

You do believe in evolution. Right?

I am ever so thankful I found someone who was willing to marry me so I could have someone around to nag at. Because if I'm not nagging, I'm just not living.

I think it goes both ways. Some men AND women are choosing not to marry for a variety of reasons. Maybe men don't want to be tied down to a nagging harpy just as some women don't want to be tied down to an immature mama's boy who they have to clean up after all the time. Maybe men don't want to commit to someone who will probably divorce them and take their money just as women don't want to commit to someone who will control their every move. Some men don't want to be constantly nagged about having kids after they get married -- just as some women don't. So the title of this link is misleading. It should be "Why Men and Women Aren't Marrying".

Happily? A loving couple who respect and love one another? A couple who outwardly shows how much they love each other? A couple from whom you have learned how to treat women and how to have a great relationship?
