Well that did not take long.

[h=3]Conservative activists are seeking an injunction blocking Houston from paying same-sex spousal benefits to municipal employees, after Texas' Supreme Court ruled last week that gay couples may not be entitled to them.[/h]

So this is the modern conservative movement. Gone is all the "we aren't trying to discriminate against same sex couples" and it is replaced by an open attempt to single out same sex families to be treated differently under the law than opposite sex couples. The sad part was how politically motivated it was. The Texas Supreme Court had originally refused to hear the case until under intense pressure from prominent Republicans they took it up. The Conservatives will get their narrow interpretation of Obergefell but it will cost them. This is no longer the culture war they want. You come after my family and you will pay dearly.

Why would you get government married when you know republicans are out to destroy your marriage? Why even put yourself under that kind of stress?

Because people want to be married. It is also a gigantic middle finger to the people against it.

Yeah, but if you know it could be taken away at any time it seems pretty reckless.

Technically almost anything can be taken away at any time, waiting is stupid. Also like I said it shows people like you they do not care what you think.

Then youd just have what you had before.

Second class citizens.

All the responsibilites.

SOME of the rights.

'Making Bigotry Great Again'

LGBT are a minority of the population so, this is just an example of, “the tyranny of the majority”

government requires the LGBT community to abide by the same laws as others but when it comes to 'rights' the LGBT community doesn't even get crumbs

way to go Texass

The OP is always worried about his marriage being taken away, and it just seems to me that he could have avoided a lot of headaches by not putting himself in the situation in the first place. Fact is he knew going in that republicans were against the ruling and that they would keep fighting against it, but instead of playing it safe and waiting it out he decided to take the plunge and put his family in the situation it is in now.

Nope. They still feel they have a right to have other people serve them against their will.

I don't agree with the activists protesters probable motivation, but the law does need to be cleaned up. The Texas high court was not opposing gay marriage but they did have to agree with the plaintiffs that the law recognizing same sex marriage did not extend the same benefits to Texas employees in same sex marriages. All that is required is a quick amendment to the existing law to clean up and settle the matter and extend those benefits.

Not the end of the world. And the activists almost certainly won't get their way, nor should they.

But isn't it ironic that now that a few probably conservative activists are seen as the bad guys, but when leftwing activists demonstrate or protest or organize to prevent a conservative from simply living his/her life as he/she chooses, those activists are deemed noble and okay and exercising their civil rights.

I just wish there was more intellectual honesty and integrity in judging these things.

Why same-sex marriage was declared legal, he had every reason to believe his rights were protected.

So homosexuals cannot have families?

Nope. They still feel they have a right to have other people serve them against their will.

All the homosexuals say that Christian bake the best wedding cakes

I am already married, I have kids, and my family is under attack by the GOP and you somehow argue it is my fault? Thanks.

No, they didn't. The fight against it was still kicking and is still kicking today.

Also, I just got to say that the claim government marriage is a right is completely ludicrous.

Make sure the area is secure before you start putting down tents.

I'm glad we know the opinion of DP's resident coward. Don't go for the things you want because it might be taken away from people who hate you. Just stay in your basement alone, bud, it's better for everyone.

Sorry that I wanted to enjoy the benefits of Republicans not dictating the terms of my life. I will be sure to bow to your subjugation in the future.

So you signed up to a government contract? What? You avoid government ****ing with your life by not doing business with them, not the other way around.

There is this thing called risk management. You should avoid putting your family in a bad situation if you can.

Nope. They still feel they have a right to have other people serve them against their will.

Well, you want to make me a legal stranger to my husband and kids, so I can't say I sympathize.

I generally oppose public accommodation laws, but that is on principle, a concept you may not understand.

The government has done nothing to my family. YOU are attacking my family. Play whatever mental gymnastics you need to avoid taking responsibility.

Yes, gay people have families.

What's got you so confused about such a simple fact?
