Who should Take the Pill? Men or Women?

Imagine you have 2 people. One male. One female. They decide to have sex. Their birth control option is a pill. One for the man and one for the woman. Both equally effective. Same potential for harmful side effects. No doubling up is allowed. Who should take the pill?

I know this seems silly, but I just watched something on FB, and it actually kinda seemed like an attack on men for women taking birth control. It was kinda radical and silly so I won't bother hunting it down as most rational people can figure out the normal...but it made me wonder about this question. So. Who?

It depends on who doesn't want to get pregnant.

Answering the question at face value. The women, as she is the one who will get pregnant, and also the one who has the choice regarding abortion etc.

As a society we have gotten to attached to the idea of sexual equality that we throw out basic logic. Yes sex does take two but we cannot ignore the obvious fact that sex does not affect both parties in the same way.

You do not take a measure in order to meet equality standards but based on what will be most effective and logical. The only argument you can create generally, ignoring personal choices among couples is that Men would take the pill in order to stop THEIR female from getting impregnated.

The reason women take it is to stop THEMSELVES getting impregnated. Notice how by suggesting men should take the pill instantly puts the idea that men have a duty of care over women. While it cannot be argued that a women has duty of care over her own body.

This issue can be made an easy one when an analogy is made;
One soldier is on a battlefield, while his CO is back at HQ. Who should wear the body armour? Yes in terms of equality they should share the armour however using logic, we can see that only the person in harms way needs the armour.

Yes in a relationship the male may decide to take contraception but that's per relationship basis. In terms of general use it should be the women.

Define what you mean by doubling up? Do you mean that both cannot take their own pill? In my opinion the one who does not want to have a child at the time should be the one taking the pill. Which does mean the potential for both taking their own pill. If it becomes a matter of the two somehow cancel each other out (unlikely, but hey hypothetical), then that needs to be up to the individual couple. No two cases willl be the same and so each would have considerations there won't be in other couplings. And of course we have to note that this is only a birth control method and does nothing for SDI's.

The only pill anybody should take is the red one.
