Are 'sexy' and 'attractive' the same thing?

I say no. I've known women who are both, certainly. But I've also known women who weren't necessarily attractive that were sexy as can be, and women who were gorgeous yet I found very un-sexy.

What say you?

Note: I say women because that's my thing. Replace with men if that's your thing. :)

Attractive is how you look, sexy is a state of mind.

Without someone showing me an example with specifics, I don't see a difference, really.

If you say - personally, not in a general sense - that you are personally physically attracted to someone, be it for any aspect of them (their mind, their voice, their body, their actions, whatever)...

If you are saying you are personally and physically attracted to them, isn't that saying you find them "sexy?"

I think sexy is a subset of attractive. A woman can be attractive without necessarily being sexy but all sexy women are attractive.

Well no, for example, a girl meets a boy and she thinks he is "cute", meaning he is attractive to her. But he is behaving a certain way, eating messily for example. She won't find him sexy. Sexy, imo, is the things you do to make others think about sex with you. Like a practiced grin, the right amount of physical contact, or any number of things.

Sexy isn't about how good looking you are, or how smart you are. It's more about how you feel about yourself, how comfortable with yourself you are, and how confident you are making your move.

I don't agree that "all sexy women are attractive". A woman can be sexy and still be unattractive for other reasons.

If you swapped the words attractive and sexy in your post, you would have my opinion on the matter in a nutshell; sexy is the physical stuff, while attractiveness requires the rest of one's personality and behavior to be in good condition, too.

When I say "attractive" for this thread I mean purely in the aesthetic sense.

So then you mean is the person "pretty" or "handsome" or eye-pleasing. Or do you mean you're attracted to them because their pretty or handsome? I think those are two different things.

You can find a woman to be pretty but not be attracted to her. If you're physically attracted to a woman though you have to find her sexy - be sexually attracted to her - even if you aren't consciously aware of it.

No to me. If I find her unattractive for other reasons then she isn't sexy.

I think there is a difference....

There are some woman who just have that vibe of sex... it's like a aura lol.
While there are other woman who are very attractive, but not in a sex aura kind of way... almost like the difference between "cute" and "sexy"... and also professional vrs. sexy... I'm for the "sexy" is under the the umbrella of attractive.

On initial observation...

Attractive is a woman I want to look at.

Sexy is a woman I want to ****.

I mean, as a guy I want to have sex with all of them but as a divorced man I never want to bother trying again.

Since both are subjective opinion values, then the answer has to be no. Now while it may be common for one sexy to be hand in hand with attractive, even while the reverse is not true, the very fact of them being opinion values means that one could view someone as sexy but not attractive.

"Pretty" probably would have been a better word choice than attractive. For the purpose of this question.

I've met women who were rather 'plain' looking. Nothing to wow me, or make me stare, but nothing to repulse me, either. Just plain. Then I spend a bit of time with them and I realize, "Damn, she's hot!" It's what they exude that you can't see initially, and then strangely they get more pretty, too.
