Students Confess Their Sins At ‘Masculinity Confession Booth’[W:40:56]

Re: Students Confess Their Sins At ‘Masculinity Confession Booth’

All "acting" norms got to go. Masculinity is just ignorant overestimation or over confidence, it's harmful to intelligence.

Sounds like you're asking for the impossible. You're not going to run away from human psychology and biology nor are you going to ever eliminate the reality of norms.

So if im understanding you correctly you measure men by a standard thats based on how subservient they are to women but you do not judge women by a similar metric.

I'd be curious how you judge what defines a lady. If you use the victorian standard that your using for men, you will find the woman is expected to take a subserviant role to men. Men are the leaders and women are the followers is the basic jist of how it works.

I'm sorry but you just don't understand at all, and at this point I seriously doubt I can change that.

I think i understand just fine. You think women should be put on a pedestal by men. You know that's a bias onesided misandric opinion, so when your asked to explain it, you refuse to and deflect by implying im not smart enough to comprehend some great enlightened concept that your keeping secret from me.

No. You do not understand. Not at all.

Re: Students Confess Their Sins At ‘Masculinity Confession Booth’

That's not the way I was taught. Of course, I was born in the knuckle-dragging 20th century and never even had to wear a chastity belt.

All my life I've opened doors or given up my seat when I thought this was needed, and this is how I reared my children too. If you prefer to stand on gender-ceremony, that's your choice.

Same here. It's just common courtesy. I have even offered my seat when in a lot of pain. It blows my mind when nobody else offers a seat, including young people (ie. teen, tween). My parents would have slapped me upside the head had they been with me in such a situation when I was that age and I didn't offer up my seat to the elderly or infirm.

A university will be hosting a “Masculinity Confession Booth” along with a number of other workshops and screenings to combat “hypermasculinity.”

“We have all reinforced hypermasculinity one way or another regardless of our gender!!” explains the University of Regina event description. “Come and share your sins so we can begin to discuss how to identify and change our ways !!!”

The “Man Up Against Violence” initiative will be hosting these events at the University of Regina in Canada during the present week. Students Share Their Sins At 'Masculinity Confession Booth' | The Daily Caller

I'm not at all sure that I've reinforced "hypermasculinity," but it's said that confession is good for the soul, so maybe this one-off will spark similar "confession booths."

First, we must start with our definitions. What is hypermasculinity? According to wikipedia... "Hypermasculinity is a psychological term for the exaggeration of male stereotypical behavior, such as an emphasis on physical strength, aggression, and sexuality."

Assuming they're using the same definition as wikipedia they've misidentified the problem. The amount of masculinity isn't the issue, it's the immoral choices behind it's expression. This is somewhat similar to the gun control debate.

“At the Man Up Against Violence initiative, we challenge mindsets and behaviors with regard to the social construction of masculinity and its relationship with violence,”

You're trying to pathologize masculinity itself. Men being predisposed to have higher levels of strength, aggression and sex drive then women are not social constructs. Men evolved to have those traits because women found them attractive within men.

Man Up Against Violence aims to reduce violence, but also challenges “social norms surrounding masculinity.” The group’s introductory video criticizes the stereotypical view of men as macho and unemotional, linking this to spousal abuse by asserting that men have violent outbursts as a result of pent-up emotions.

Men are "macho and unemotional" in relation to what? What are you using as your measuring stick? Women? Because if so that's a horrible idea. Men are not emotionally repressed versions of women anymore than women are overly emotional versions of men. The two sexes evolved to fulfill different roles, they have different traits and predispositions.

Therefore your assertion that men are violent due to pent-up emotions is based on a false premise.

“We don’t have to continue to live in a misogynistic society,” says Tyler Perkins, a football player at the University of Regina, in the video. “I think [changing this] falls on everyone and especially men because quite frankly we are the problem right now.”

First, we must start with our definitions. What is misogynistic? According to wikipedia... "Misogyny is the hatred of, contempt for, or prejudice against women or girls.".

Assuming Tyler is using the same definition as wikipedia he's wrong. We have women studies courses in college, domestic violence shelters for women, laws against workplace discrimination, social shaming, sexual assault training, and feminism dominates hollywood, academia and the mainstream media.

Rest assured Tyler, if a cheerleader ever accused you of rape the University of Regina will be sure to give you a proper education on what hatred, contempt, and prejudice looks like.

The kind of man who goes to this is the kind of man who is badly suppressing our national fertility rates.

But maybe this is a good thing?

Common courtesy (as I see it) has gone the same way as common sense. Into the endangered listings.

Any masculinity?

Which part? These men giving up their masculinity? Or the low fertility rates?

I meant that IF it's emo guys going to the "confessional booth," their not contributing to the gene pool might not be such a bad thing. (And I was joking.)

Ha, got it. That went beyond me, but I like it.
