Defiant Girl

That the message is clear. The girl is standing in opposition to the bull. Making the piece into a battle between a girl and a bull is the wrong message to send.

Why is it the wrong message to send? DO you like being told what to do by the oligarchy?

Simply because things have improved some over the last few decades doesn't mean everything is peachy.

Never said it was, nor do I think that.

By the way - I doubt your term "blow up" is all that true.
I don't know one single woman who changed their schedule yesterday.
It's was more of a non-event from what I've seen.
Nowhere near the energy or press that the big march right after Trump's inauguration created. (not that I agreed with that march)

I'm not talking about the Day Without A Woman protest. I'm just talking about International Women's Day. That got a ton of attention yesterday, and rightfully so. On Twitter, everywhere I looked it was there, and the hashtag was the top trending for that day. Even the protest along with International Women's Day still had a whole bunch of attention, even if the protest itself wasn't all that successful (because of the fact that it was a stupid idea to begin with).

Why a defiant girl is staring down the Wall Street bull - Mar. 7, 2017

I'm sure this'll make a few people here absolutely furious.

I've always thought that it should be a bull and a bear going at it, but if this is supposed to offend me, it's not working.

I don't think anyone would get that from the statue.

Definitely looks bad ass. I like it. Judging from my FB feed it seems some on the left think this is a pro-resistance piece of art. But this month long art exhibit is by a financial institution trying to increase the number of women serving in financial corporate boards, which is also a good thing.

But people are definitely getting different impressions of the same piece of art. Which is, of course, typical of art.

DOn't you??? Why not? Do you know what the Bull represents??? Do you know and understand symbolism?

WHat message do you think it is trying to convey?

By who? To who?

I made no comment on whether or not I agreed with the message.

Ahh...well, I don't twitter. I can only go by the internet frenzy I see, or in this case didn't see, on news sites and on Facebook.

I did not know, until I googled it, that International Women's Day has been taking place since early 1900's. Over 100 years.

So the fact that we're actually talking about it here is proof it's at least gaining some recognition.

No. I see a girl taking on a bull and about to die. If I was to dig deeper I see a bull that represents a bull market being challenged by a little girl.

Yeah, that's a great message to send kids.

Shouldn't this statue be called "Darwin Award candidate"?

It's symbolism. I don't think the intention here was for it to be taken literally.

*sigh....

I already posted once what the artist's intent was.

Fearless Girl is the creation of Lewes artist Kristen Visbal.

"The once male dominated environment of Wall Street needs to recognize the strength in women – and her place within the financial community," Visbal wrote in a press release. “All women should relate to this work. It should inspire the young to dream as if anything were possible and simultaneously encourage today’s working woman to hold her ground, no matter what challenges may come barreling down the pike. ... This is a piece of work all women of any age, shape, color or creed can relate to, a work which reminds us today’s working woman is here to stay and has taken her place in the nation’s financial district."

*sigh....

I already posted once what the artist's intent was.

And it fails because people aren't going to pick up whatever you want from art. That is the whole problem with not being clear with your art.

It means: Know the power of women in leadership. She will make a difference.

Artist even put it in writing in case someone missed it.

Which makes no sense in the context of a little girl standing off against the Wall Street bull. It would make sense in a whole host of other (again, dumb) contexts, but it doesn't in THAT context. So, the artist has some 'splainin' to do.

Naaah. Seems far more like some juvenile anti-capitalist thing to me.

The thing about art is, the audience is never wrong. If most people see something other than the artist's purported intent, the artist didn't convey the message intended.

I don't think anyone would get that from the statue.

No, but I got that from the tech bubble, the housing bubble, the 2008 economic implosion and subsequent bail outs of the bad actors responsible, as well as the notable presence of many of those bad actors in this and the last 2 administrations.

Good lord man....

David and Goliath.

A smaller "weaker" individual standing up to, and facing down the establishment.

The bullied, standing up to the bully.

Is it really that damned difficult?

I don't think you're actually arguing against what I said, at least not to the extent you think you are. Even what you describe isn't what you posted as the artist's intent.

That's the sad thing about this statue, there have been women making a killing on Wall St. for years. There are women all throughout the top spots in industry as well as politics. All this and Hillary getting the popular vote, so this statue doesn't make sense to me. If it were the 1930's, sure.

I see. THere seems to be a lack of understanding there. The inability to understand symbolism is an interesting problem.

I'm guessing this pisses many of you off too:

Feminist bull**** is feminist bull****. That however is normal stuff these days from Hollywood.

Just think, men are now losing to little girls. They're not even trying to make it seem believable anymore. lol.
