U.S. health officials have identified a cluster of gonorrhea infections that show sharply increased resistance to the last effective treatment available for the country's second most commonly reported infectious disease.
The findings from a cluster of Hawaii cases, presented Wednesday at a conference on prevention of sexually transmitted diseases, represent the first cluster of cases in the United States that have shown such decreased susceptibility to the double-antibiotic combination used when other drugs have failed. If the bacteria continue to develop resistance, that end-of-the-line therapy ultimately will fail, and an estimated 800,000 Americans a year could face untreatable gonorrhea and the serious health problems it causes, health officials said

Gee,
imagine if abstinence until marriage was practiced...

Don't be ridiculous. Any sex ed that anywhere mentions abstinence as any kind of viable option, worthy of respect, is clearly backwards and wrong.

Not sure if you are being serious or simply just snarky.
I will take it as snarky.

The concern is alarming. They are having a huge issue with this in England right now. People can't get rid of it. Super Gonorrhea is becoming an epidemic.
The rate of which it is spreading shows a huge lack of self-discipline people are showing toward each other.

One of the biggest increases in the STD boom has been these hook up aps like tender etc ...

it was meant as a dating app but it is being used for one night stands.
people sleeping without using protection or whatever and sleeping with multiple people at a time.

It was definite sarcasm. Renae mentioned teaching abstinence and that usually brings about all sorts of derisive comments. I just wanted to be the first.

Because asking people to act with a modicum of self control is somehow repressive or some ****. I'm not stupid, my kids go out, they have condoms. I tell them SAVE YOURSELF FOR MARRIAGE. However, if you find that is not your choice, use protection, just don't cry to me if you get preggers, a gift you cannot get rid of, burning pee...

Best Sex Ed method I can think of.

I am afraid it might now be becoming progressive. If antibiotics no longer work and no new ones are found, you will see your friends die like the homosexuals did in the 1980s. This happens from time to time in history and the prudishness of the 1950s was a remnant of the period after syphilis was introduced and the libertarian life of the medieval bathhouses come to an end.

I do agree that it can be a tough balance. Abstinence tends to be ridiculed, as are kids who are taught to "save it for marriage" and I think that's dumb and wrong. I think it's as perfectly a respectable choice as any other. On the other hand, I get the idea of, but if you're still going to assume whatever risks, at least protect yourself as much as possible.

Imagine if we did anyway with factory farming. Imagine if people stopped demanding antibiotic prescriptions for viral infections. Imagine if pharmaceutical companies stopped aggressive marketing antibiotics much more widely than clinically justified.

And now we’re doing with fantasy land, imagine we stopped pretended there is any kind of easy, magic answer to this kind of problem and focus on the wide combination of different things we need to do to address them.

I think it's hard to find that fine line between abstinence and education about sex. On the one hand you want them to try and save themselves but on the other you want them to be educated about the serious consequences of sex. It sends mixed signals to say just wait but if you don't wear a condom and be safe. Just a hard topic especially when it's directed at naive and horny teens.

But liberals told me that if we mainstream sex and legitimate every sexual practice imaginable, the pitfalls of such incontinence will disappear. What gives?

Damn skippy! Screw the prudes, man! We need to teach these kids how to facilitate threesomes, and the proper techniques for stimulating the clitoris instead! Don't forget to throw transgenderism and the proper usage of lubricants during anal sex in there either!

That's vital, need-to-know, information, damnit!

Won't someone please think of the children!?!

They'll thank us when they're drunkenly groping strangers in college... Well, if they don't catch something, or wind up getting sexually assaulted by some frat-bro in an inebriated stupor...

Are you safe with a condom?
