About 1.4 million adults in the United States identify as transgender, double a widely used previous estimate, according to an analysis based on new federal and state data.As the national debate escalates over accommodations for transgender people, the new figure, though still just 0.6 percent of the adult population, is likely to raise questions about the sufficiency of services to support a population that may be larger than many policy makers assumed.
“There’s a saying: ‘You don’t count in policy circles until someone counts you,’” said Gary J. Gates, a demographer and former research director of the group that did the analysis, the Williams Institute at the U.C.L.A. School of Law, which focuses on law and policy issues related to sexual orientation and gender identity.

I AM NOT ALONE!!!! /hugs to all my trans brothers and sisters!

You brought it up, as if eluding to a great truth.

Just wanted to point out that there are lots of people living in small minorities. Just some seem to crave notice.

And some pretend to not want attention but cry for it, like you did here.

Was there any REAL point you had or was the point to troll the thread?

Troll the thread? You mean rather point out that tiny minorities are not so remarkable and that the reaction to hogging the limelight aggravates many people. Now your reaction seems to show that you know the feeling.
That's very nice. Empathy is human.

That's your right to view this thread that way, it's my right to laugh a your transparent motivation.

Sure there are all kinds of small minorities, like Trekkers, and goth, and Emo's and so many others. But only a few of these minorities are actually suppressed and ridiculed and treated as if they are wrong or don't matter. They have to do things to grab attention in order to correct that wrong. When was the last time a Trekker had any of his right denied by virtue of being a Trekker? Gays, trans, racial minorities, even poly's are denied basic rights or are even targeted because of simply who they are. We don't crave notice for that reason. But we need to get noticed so that people will know that treating us like that is wrong and that it must stop.

If you have to get noticed, it is always good, if it is not in a negative way. That only loses votes that you would have had.

Trekkers are routinely discriminated against.

By women.

I applaud that society in general is accepting homosexuality and I reckon a couple of generations will see it pretty much mainstream, I already see a completely different view of it in our young people; Which is one thing I don't get about this problem with 'Pride' becoming too mainstream, surely that is the point! I digress, anyway, it seems to me that trans-vestite-gender-sex is now the the 'fatty' category of the sexual world and is still viewed as a bit of a joke, just weird men who want to wear lingerie and Tom boys who haven't started wearing pretty dresses yet. It worries me that this issue is going to get left behind with everyone saying that they are so accepting because they know someone who is gay but, still not quite accepting of the trans condition. Please accept that this is only my observation and not meant in any way to make light of the serious problems faced by homosexuals, I just think that we are going to miss something here if we are not careful.
