I have a rather undemanding job these days that serves my purposes and it pays well. I have no interest in switching. I don't have the pressing desire to study hard for the time being. I will be going on a nice vacation in January, but that's January. I'm remembering something my old man used to get annoyed about, but now I understand. He would say "can't you just sit"? You don't always have to be doing something. Sitting on the back porch and just observing and hearing without thinking of anything has its value. I think it's time to learn to appreciate what my old man was talking about.

These self-help, SDET threads are great... Thank you.

Avoiding boredom seems to be better skill to develop. Today I mowed an acre lot, put a coat of polyurethane on a previously stained screen door (to be installed tomorrow), worked a bit on plans and a material list for building an insulated dog house, watched some television, played some online poker and posted some stuff here on DP.

Absolutely but I have to say, I never get bored with just sitting these days...it provides opportunity for reflecting and contemplating...

"Getting comfortable with boredom is a good skill to develop"

Only if you are living in a 3rd world country.

Enjoying the moment is not boredom, being at peace and enjoying quite solitude on a deck or something is not boredom, observing the sights and sounds or even listening to the rain is not boredom.

Why is everyone so damn judgmental as if being as peace in some way means boredom?

Sounds like a perfect time to do some real "thinking". You can stay seated.

Being at peace? BORING!

I ate a taco! (well not really)

I also ate today, but that was not done to prevent boredom. By my rough calculations (my girlfriend keeps track of my billable time), I earned about $60 today.

Wait... what?

Wait... what?

What is hard to understand about that? I work as a self-employed handyman, bill on a time (labor hours) and materials (at cost) basis and my girlfriend keeps the records (my labor hours and material receipts) and prepares/submits the bills to my customers. I worked on three different customer's jobs today (mowing, replacing a screen door and building an insulated dog house).

Reminds of the quote:

"All men's miseries derive from not being able to sit in a quiet room alone." - Blaise Pascal

That and being horny at inconvenient times.

Reminds me of what my dear friend always tells me. It goes something like
