In 83, my mother passed, then her mother in 86. Her brother in the early 2000's, her father in 2016 and yesterday her sister passed. I'm now the eldest of that line of the family walking this earth. It hit me very strangely, as I don't "feel" old, yet here we are. I'm actually the eldest of both my mother and fathers families in terms of generationally. On top of that, My Aunt never married the woman she's been with for 30 years (don't ask...) and only had given her a Power of Attorney, which stops the moment you do, so that means I'm legally her Next of Kin.

What a day.

I'd expect this to be a very profound moment. I know it was for my uncle, when he discussed it at the funeral that left him the eldest.

Also, like all profound moments after a death, I suspect the feeling abates with time.

Personally, I would seize the moment and do something appropriate for your new-found status, whatever you feel that may be.

BTW - haven't seen you in a month of Sundays! Good to see you active again, though sorry about the situation with the recent passing.

I'm sorry for your losses. They do mount up as we grow older. Take comfort in the support of your family, as you support them. Just because you're the oldest doesn't mean you have to be the strongest all the time.

My aunt was a money begger and not a great person, but she was family.
I expect it will pass, this odd reality of mortality I face now. I joked with my sister now I just need certain remaining members of the family and all teh Winchesters (of the gun maker family) to drop and I get that entire fortune!!! (My great aunt married into that family)

Yeah I took a hard break, I do that. Been really caught up playing FFXIV to be honest.

Legally the Power of Attorney will expire. Any assets should still go to the partner of 30 years unless stated otherwise in her will. That would be the right thing to do anyway.

As her partner said "She has about half a car to her name". Despite being given ten's fo thousands fo dollars by her dad, and quite a lot of very expensive and valuable items over the years. I didn't expect anything and had her estate anything I'd just sign it over to her partner anyway. Not interested in that mess.

Over here most states are pretty clear that unless there is a directive by the deceased then assets go to the next of kin. What "should" happen is generally superseded by what "legally" happens. The states and courts simply don't want to get involved in this kind of domestic dispute. I've seen assets go to an illegitimate child instead of a spouse from a second marriage.

Sorry for your loss! Somehow one day we wake up and it's like where did all the years go?
I think this comes on strong especially when someone close passes away. Hang in there you
will weather the storm! It will take time.

I just felt really freaking old all the sudden. I wasn't close to my Aunt, I saw her like 3 times in my life, not that I had issues with her but she was one who made her life very hard with bad decisions. I try to not let such sink me too.

I know exactly what you are feeling... but don't have an easy fix for it. Take Care!

What an interesting story.

The House That Guns Built

"The Winchester Rifle is "the gun that won the west"—and it made the Winchester family very wealthy. We take a tour of the family's summer compound and trace their complicated, fascinating history."

Condolences for your loss. My grandma turns 100 this weekend. I do not feel the age yet but it is coming.

100! Aces for her. I have a 20 year old son, who likes to remind me JUST how old I am... :p
