Why does the smoke detector decide that the battery is low only between the hours of 0200-0400? The chirping is like a dripping faucet.
We replaced all of the smoke detectors a few years ago. Manufacturer recommends every ten years. These are about five years old. I replaced the battery and the chirping continued. I started hunting replacement units and decided to check with the manufacturer for compatibility. The first thing the repacked after model number was “what is the exp date on the batteries you are using?” This particular battery exp date was 12-2020. The rep stated that this unit needed batteries with exp dates beyond 2023.
I tested the voltage on the original battery and the 9v battery was showing about 7. something, the replacement battery from our stock was reading at 9. something. I’ve worked around machinery/batteries etc for most of my adult life and have never heard of an in-date battery with the proper voltage being weaker than a battery with a longer exp date.
So now the missus is on the lookout for batteries with longer shelf-life. Anyone run into this before?
