For the past several nights, every time I jog in my neighborhood there are lit candles at the base of these bushes that line the sidewalk. Tonight I got curious and stopped to investigate. There were 2 lit candles placed in back of the bush, about 6 inches apart, and looked like someone tried to hide them, as they're up against a fence, at the very back of the bush. As I was looking at it, a woman wearing a black headscarf came out of the alley about 30 feet away and started walking quickly towards me. When she was directly in front of me, she waved her arms in the air and said "no! no!" I told her I was just curious why the candles were there, but she didn't seem to know any other English besides "no". So I left.

What does it mean? There are many immigrants of Latino ancestry in my neighborhood, and I thought it might have something to do with Santeria. Does anyone know about Santeria? Why would someone place lit candles in back of a bush? I'm stumped, and Google doesn't seem to know what this means either.

I sure hope you didn't just turn and walk away. I sure hope you backed away. 'Cause she's a priestess and if she saw both sides of you in that place she can take possession of you. Even if you just imagined that sequence, it means Santeria was guiding your soul into the hands of a priestess.

Illuminate me PLEASE.

I'm all for hostility though I draw the line at violence. I'd say just shoot toward her feet a few dozen times and make her dance, leave it at that.

MAGA!

I am a civility advocate myself.

Your reporting is sorta fuzzy, can you tune that in a tad?

That seems evident.

I am an alt-right (i.e. proud racist) Trump supporter. Need you know more?

Thank you!

How did you make this all about U, THAT took talent.

I get the idea that U cant help me here.

I will keep looking.

First, thank you.

Then, to be sure, you did ask me to, and I paraphrase, tune it in a tad, and I did, so you at least deserve honorable mention for making this about me.

Fair enough and fair weather on your search; perhaps one day it will be about you, and I hope to be there when it happens.

It's probably a spell of some kind. It's best not to touch or disturb it or the spell will go on you.

I'm more familiar with Macumba...but it has the same African origins as Santeria and Voodoo. They all seem to incorporate an African belief in sorcery with Catholicism.

It seems odd that I know U so little.

We might have to change that.

My neighborhood is a white liberal's wet dream; formerly 90% white in the 1970's, it is now about 70% Hispanic, with a little sprinkling of white people, black people, Syrian refugees, and a burgeoning Chinese community.

The hostility you speak of is real I'm afraid.

Well I don't really believe in spells and hocus pocus. The West made it's greatest progress when it abandoned paganism & superstition for Christianity. Not to start a religious debate though...

There was a recent case in Texas of these people practicing wide spread animal sacrifice though, so they're definitely nothing to mess with if they have a tendency for that kind of stuff. They'd probably just as easily sacrifice a human to the VooDoo HooDoo whatchamacallits.

Sorry for screwing with your thread....I was curious....I have not lived there since 1998.

I think Santeria incorporates Catholic beliefs...so I guess you could call that progress. lol

I really don't believe in it either...but I am fascinated by it.

Once I went with some friends to a Macumba soul cleansing ceremony in a very rural area outside of Rio. It was an experience I shall never forget, the drums pounding non stop, ladies in white dresses smoking cigars filling the room with thick smoke while shuffling around in a large circle and every ten minutes or so one of them would drop writhing to the floor and a man leading the ritual would try to communicate to the spirit that possessed her....and this went on for hours and hours and hours. Then suddenly, it was our turn to have our souls cleansed..ew boy. It kinda reminded me of the Evangelical faith healing of laying on of hands.

I had another experience in New Orleans at Marie Laveau's grave. I put my hand on her tombstone to make a wish and my arm went tingly numb up to my elbow for like half an hour. I don't know if it was supposed to mean something or not...but my wish did come true.

She was probably just performing a private ritual, there's nothing more to it than that. She probably said "no" because she was trying to tell you not to disturb it.

You won't find out what it's about on Google. Real-deal Santeria practitioners belong to lineages and info about their practices is not public.

The other claims in this thread, like she was trying to lead you to her or steal your soul, are bogus. They don't cast curses just for fun.
