I am reaching out to my network here (ideally those in the tri-state area) in the hopes someone knows anybody with any job openings. I don't need a job. I'm not out on the street and I won't starve without it. I'm incredibly lucky to have the freedom and the ability to look for a new job while I'm currently at this one but, I am looking for a new job.
I am feeling unappreciated and held back by my current organization. I love technology and I am very pro-media. I feel like the world is passing me by because I am not in the center of it all. I'm hanging back on the sidelines doing the same exact stuff I've been doing five years ago. I'm not learning anything new, and the non-profit I currently work at doesn't care about the same stuff I do. They care more about helping people, which is fine, but that's not my passion. I am not a social worker. I'm a nerdy information junkie who loves media and technology. So it's hard to work for an organization that doesn't care about any of that stuff.
I didn't do great in school and I'm a pro at failing technical tests but, I have five years of professional work experience in technical support, training, web design and technical research across multiple industries including healthcare, non-profit and retail. I have posted my resume to resume review places and they said it looks great from a technical perspective. I have tailored my resume and cover letters to countless job opportunities online to no avail. I barely get any interviews anymore. The last one I went on was in October of 2017. I've had the privilege of interviewing at some really cool places ranging from various federal agencies, museums, hedge funds, to special high courts in the area.
I have already exhausted my small IRL network of contacts to no avail. I am currently going around in circles now. Avoiding smaller companies I see Job openings for since when I sent my resume in before it just went into a big blackhole and I've never heard back. Yes. I apply to 2-4 jobs a day and the last company I heard back from was that one in October. Instead of passing by a company on the street, and saying, "Oh I've done work with them," I'm saying, "Oh I applied there..."
It's a weird feeling walking down the street seeing companies you applied for. You end up discouraged and feeling like you aren't good enough. Any advice much appreciates.
PS I already have a very custom tailored approach to finding jobs on reputable job sites (glassdoor) so that's not the advice I need.
