First, I just wanted to thank you all for your support. Many of you have reached out to me since I first posted about my struggles with PTSD. It is a reminder that while, yes, this is “just” an online forum where we all come to debate and bitch about politics and everything else, it is also a community. Lots of people who join this forum come and go. But there is a core group of members here whom I consider as much friends as the friends I know in real life, regardless of politics. I have mourned the loss of our friends here as much as I have mourned the loss of friends I knew in person. This place is wonderful, and silly, and infuriating, and supportive, and ridiculous, and meaningful.

So this thread isn’t about me. This thread is a place where our members can share their own struggles and experiences. I know from my inbox that I am not the only person battling an internal war and that it is most definitely not limited to veterans. I also realize these issues are sensitive and a public forum isn’t always the preferred outlet. Several members have offered to talk to me in private if I need it. So I would also request that those of you who are willing to lend an ear to those struggling, please state so in this thread so such members know they can message you. It can save a life. It saved mine. And I too am here to listen.

Remember, most of us are not professional therapists and those who are can’t offer official medical advice here. It can never hurt to seek professional counseling. It doesn’t work for everyone but you never know until you try.

Also, any videos or links to pages you have found helpful are welcome.

A member sent me this music video earlier. The song resonates with my own personal struggle probably more than any I have ever heard. I have always found music to be cathartically healing.

This may be more related to TBI-induced issues, but I'm not sure. Either way....this was a pretty amazing episode.

Ay-yo. Message me any time.

And thanks for doing this, Bob.

As the husband of someone with 70% disability Combat PTSD but always really she also had childhood sexual abuse PTSD what I have to say is that with determination and good help it can get better. Also I have a friend who swears that yoga is the best thing and she tends to be right, and she is a good yoga teacher these days. When my wife got back from Iraq she spent a month on the sofa...literally.....almost every minute...now she is holding down a high stress at times job and could if she had to get on a plane and can go to weddings and graduations and such.

The dead still visit her most nights though.

Excellent thread, Chief.....This isnt something anyone should have to fight alone; there are too many of us that have been there and will lend an ear....and too many resources to allow anyone to slip through the cracks.

Several people whom I know and respect have also found benefit with yoga. I might need to give it a try. I just need to find a place that doesn’t focus too much on things like chi and chakras. I’m not really into the mystical side of the practice.

Ya I found that out later....that it works for some......when she told me I was kinda "Really...are you sure?" thinking maybe this was some profitable wishful thinking on her part (I know her well enough to know that she would not straight up lie)...But I believe now. The wife will not try it, not even with an app at home.

I am sorry if you found my humor defective yesterday...I am admittedly hard bitten.

It made me laugh. :)

Yeah, I definitely hear that. Maybe we should find a "grumpy bastards who ain't got no time for chakras" yoga class. Although I'm not sure Richmond is a fantastic bet.
