Young Adult advice

1. Here's another suggestion - you're in Canada, so join the Canadian Navy (which I do not suggest for any American in the age of Trump). You'll see and do things you'd never experience staying near home. In my youth, the recruiting slogan was "It's not just a job, it's an adventure"...and that's the truest advertising slogan ever! I've seen and done things that most civilians out there can only dream of...and my twenty years in the Navy gave me perspective I could never have gained staying in the area I grew up...and gave me a lifetime of sea stories with which to bore my kids and grandkids.

To be sure, there will be times that you would hate it and you will curse me for ever suggesting it to you...but when all is said and done, you'll have seen and done things that you can't even dream of doing today. Just something to think about!

1. I'll think about that but I think I'm dead set on being a HVAC Technician as long as I can improve my social skills. If I can't then I'm thinking about going into computer programming. I went to visit New York before and learned some from Aaron Swartz himself before he committed suicide for hacking. He was a good guy to but anyways, I'm sold on the idea that life is mainly a journey and not a destination. Get a job/career you'll love to do work hard enough to maintain and go from there if you want to start a family or something like that go for it.

As for the blacked part yes definitely. Americans are sunk too deeply into there ideologies that the marines think they are going around trying to spread freedom when in reality they are over there just securing/stealing resources to fuel there ever broken Capitalism where over 70% of the population is fighting over 1% of the resources.

That's a middle class income for a single person in the US correct?

I believe it would be depending on location

I am from Alberta however and can't say for sure

Millwrights however can make 100k + in Alberta even now per year

Just to let you know, almost all modern Navy ships require HVAC technicians :), and while I was stationed in Hawaii, I got three classes away from finishing my bachelor's in computer science. But I guess what the Navy allowed me to do that I could never have done otherwise was to travel the world...and you're not limited like I was, and so you don't need the Navy. In other words, do travel as much as you can - especially while you're young, because things get a lot more difficult once you're married, and especially after you have kids. One great way of doing it is to get a teacher's certificate and begin teaching in different nations around the world...where you'll find (as I did) that other than religious and cultural mores, we're all really very much alike. I would personally recommend that you start out in Europe (esp. England), since from there you can easily (and rather inexpensively) go almost anywhere in Europe or around the Med. Travel and explore and have your adventures while you're young!

I'm definitely exploring around now that I have a decent income for a extremely young millennial. As for the blacked out part, since I'm a male, I'm going to have to be careful if I venture into that. I had one of my uncle's who was a lawyer got shot dead by a cop because his wife allowed her to stretch him out financially and he snapped trying to beat on her and my cousins. I'm good looking to (according to women) so I'm going to have to be especially careful. I do plan on starting a family eventually but I'm going to be very careful.

I can cook a couple of things

If money is an issue, stuff I did to save money with food (needs oven):

1. Roast whole chicken. Cheapest to just own a big bag of brown rice, make some, stuff the chicken, cook it. "Cook" = 375 degrees for 2.5h if it's 3.5-4.5 pounds. The 2.5h is slightly negotiable but don't worry about it until you have a sense of how it goes.

If you can afford, basic spices. Paprika, chili powder, onion, garlic, Rosemary. Otherwise, salt/pepper at least. Or at least salt.

2. Black beans. You can get a huge sack and prepare them per instruction. Mix with anything they go with. Otherwise, Goya brand has these giant cans of black beans for a little over $1. You can mix with leftovers, oorrrrr.

3. Hams. Not deli ham, but a ham. The 9-12 pounders. Pre-cooked will save you time. Heat it up, maybe brush a little something on and then finish it, or not. (I brush on honey/maple syrup/soy sauce, in a paprika, chili powder, etc mix).

4. Rice. Brown rice. Make it.

The ham will serve you for a while and it will keep because it's injected with salt water. You can get a ton of good meals out of beans/rice/leftover ham. Add apples and bananas and it's more balanced. Preferably, get red lettuce and eat it however.

5. Bananas, apples.

More expensive?

6. Beef rump roast. Coat in mashed garlic/olive oil mix. Add paprika, chili powder, onion powder, thyme, rosemary to the whole outside. If 3.5-4.2 pounds, bake at 375F for 72.5 min for a rare center.

Bottom line? Experiment with basic recipies. Cooking doesn't have to be some gigantic ****fest that uses 50 ingredients. I'd base everything around onion, garlic, paprika, chili powder.

And don't be afraid of "msg". It's not bad for you. It's sodium + glutamate rather than sodium chloride. No biggie unless you have the very rare allergy.

Hell, you can just get chicken breasts + shake n' bake. Coat'em, bake 'em, eat 'em....maybe use hot sauce or something at that point.

+1

I got through college on shake and bake and pasta.

And -- eat a lot of Ramen noodles.

A Ramen diet will keep you alive but just barely...unless you do it right and follow this simple recipe:

Boil noodles per package instructions (and put the damn packet spices in at the start) for about 3 minutes or so.

Then TURN THE HEAT OFF. (Or take the pan off the burner if you're using an electric stove.)

Take 1-3 eggs and carefully crack them on to the top of the noodles.

(That's why you turn the heat of and stop the rolling boil. The eggs will stay on top of the noodles. If it's a rolling boil, the eggs will drop in and disappear.)

Using a fork, break up the egg yokes and whites but don't strongly stir them around. Just break them up so they will cook in small chunks.

Turn the heat back on high and continue to cook for 4 or 5 minutes or so.

Eat.

Do any experienced adults here with the real world want to give advice to a young adult here?

1. Stay in school. Pay attention. Learn something.
2. Get a decent paying job and keep it.
3. Keep your legs closed / put a helmet on that soldier until both #1 and #2 are complete.
