How to get my name off a group text or delete it?

My neighbor sent me a photo of her new grand baby in a text also addressed to six other people. They're all using it now to talk back and forth having nothing whatever to do with me. I can't figure out how to get rid of it....

Anybody know?

I have an Android LG.

Based on what you described, you have to ask to be left off future emails in that thread. It's not a formal mailing list, right?

If someone knows how to secretly block a specific thread without removing or red-listing contacts in some way, I'd like to hear it as well.

You can turn off notifications for just that group text so that it won't blow up your phone every time they message

How do I do that? When I have the text displayed, none of the icons offer such an option...

Should be an option to leave group text within your text app, possible right even in the text itself under options.

phones and app vary so much its hard to tell you blind but its definitely there somewhere
 
Just go into the group message and in the top right click the 3 dots for the menu, then click on mute conversation. that will allow ur phone not to buzz or ring when they text each other.
The only way i know how to remove yourself from the group text is to tell one of the people in the group to start a new group conversation without you in it. I have done this for a few of my friends and no one ever considered it rude.

There should be an option menu in the top right corner when you open up the group text
 
on my phone when im in the text in question i can click on three lines top right and then turn off notifactions

if you want it totally off in the future when you are just in the text app in general again click on the top right, go into settings then multimedia messages and uncheck group messages.

Based on my android, if you go to the top right corner and click the 2 bar icon and find that "group" in there under add/remove groups, you can temporarily remove them? I dunno. I actually hate text because 1) out of hand group texts, 2) people who write dissertations in text messages, which are broken into 10 fragments.

Thank you. It wasn't there. The only thing the help icon did within the text itself was to show me all the participants. I ended up using the group text to ask participants to individually remove my name. Each time I get another, I will do the same. It feels icky to get copies of their conversational texts and certainly aggravating to be bothered by them

I don't mind texting. I use it frequently. Still on for tomorrow? I'm going to be ten minutes late. Stuck in traffic. Whatever. But despise it's use in a conversational way. Call me!

I feel your frustration! Sometimes I obsess on pesky little cell phone tech tasks. About two years ago I had a deranged former friend (think along the lines of the Colorado Abortion Clinic Shooter Robert Dear) call my cell about 20 times in less than 30 days. He left one serious threat message after another. I wanted the State Attorney's Office to press charges. They chose not to. It took more than a minute to figure out how to transfer the threats from my cell phone to CDs and a Flash Drive. I finally figured it out! If a fight ever breaks out between the two of us, I have rock solid evidence.

Tap the settings icon in the upper right, then People & options, you can switch off notifications for the thread or customize the notification sound.

Apparently on android you can't leave the text thread :( On iOS you can.

Alternatively, call that baby an ugly SOB and I'm sure you'll get booted out of there ASAP :)

Get a can of lighter fluid and burn your phone. Group texts are worse than Facebook notifications.
