To preserve internet speeds for telecommuting, should porn by banned?

Facebook, DP, a lot of Wikipedia articles, the daily wire, various news sites, CatholicMatch, religious content of varying types. Travel blogs, stuff about airplanes, resources for learning the Spanish language.

That kind of stuff. No pornography.

My hard drive? Whatever gets stored on there, pictures, documents, archived emails. No pornography.

Okay, so you know how to clear your search history.

 Damn it boy, that's just too funny.

Seriously the the internet companies habitually oversell their networks and that's why when everyone uses it at the same time it gets all wonky. Blame your ISP for not building their network out properly.

Indeed.

I may only have a 30x5 line (30 Mb down / 5 Mb up - Speedtest by Ookla - The Global Broadband Speed Test) considered slow these days, but it's a high quality line from a high quality provider - good tech support, never down, always performs well.

When both my wife and I are WFH, no issues in the least.

None of that stuff seems very pressing. Deal with slow internet speeds for the sake of freedom

Or maybe get broadband instead of cheap intent access.

I'm not having any problems and I have 100mb access, which in the slowest package my ISP offers. I could just as easily use 50mb.

A VPN will defeat that ban.

It would defeat the ban and would increase the demand on the physical network line, so it'd make things worse than they are.

Or we could invest in infrastructure and improve internet bandwidth for everyone instead if giving ISPs more control over the lives of their customers. We need absolute net neutrality now so to stop a for-profit company from throttling or restricting what its customers use. The internet is now a utility and its uses needs to be protected as such.

Yawns. Your side lost that fight like 2 years ago.

Okay, so you know how to clear your search history.

I have nothing to clear. Maybe you do and so you’re projecting perversion on other people. But your accusation against me is baseless.

Some how Jeffrey Epstein and Harvey Weinstein names come to mind.

Yeah, I wonder what the FBI got during that raid. He had some pretty high up buddies. Real fishy, that whole thing.

Are the people from West Virginia really that stupid, or is that just you?

.....coming from the guy who thought that Yugoslavia was part of the Soviet bloc I don’t think you have room to accuse anyone else of being stupid.

Why do you want to give ISPs more power?

Authoritarian lovers love corporate authoritarians as much as they love governmental authoritarians.

Yeah it isn't good to have dirt on the Clintons if you want to have a long life. And now Harvey suddenly came up with COVID19.

I am experiencing very slow internet speed right now, and it’s frustrating me, so I got to thinking, since Internet pornography is non-essential and takes a lot of bandwidth, should it be outlawed by emergency declaration?

This is actually pretty easy to implement, ISPs can be ordered to stop allowing certain websites to be accessed.

Viewing streaming pornography could then be a misdemeanor and viewers arrested.

Thus allowing faster internet for everyone else

How dare you, the leader of the internet porn addicts association has already been heard shouting:

If they want to take my internet porn, they are going to have to pry it from my warm and sticky hands ;)

I am sure when the folks said older Americans should be allowed to sacrifice themselves for the economy, they really meant the internet porn industry.

Apparently they can lick two boots at once. They are on their knees to religion of an imaginary god as they do it.

Is that now a fetish for some guys?

Or to have dirt on a dirtbag even higher up than a Clinton #looksquirrel deflection. It's odd how quickly that raid happened.

Try broadband its much better than dial up.

Louisiana Pastor Draws 1000 People

So in above linked thread you complained about the governments need to restrict gathering at places of worship. You say it's against the constitution and against freedom of religion etc. Even though large gatherings do pose a threat to the public and overwhelming our healthcare systems by needlessly increasing the likely spreading the virus within the community.

But see no problem censoring porn, because you believe it's slowing your internet speed. And it's against your morality. No problem pushing religious beliefs and so called morality on to others even going so far as suggesting people be arrested who violates the religious morality law.

We have a word for that in the US. We call it "censorship." If it was by government order, then it would also be a deliberate violation of the First Amendment.

No, the OP didn't. If you had a clue and actually followed the thread instead of just making sh*t up out of thin air, I was referring to MrPeanut's question, not the OP's question.

If you could read you would know the government is specifically prohibited from "abridging the freedom of speech," which includes pornography.

I would seriously consider suing your teachers if I were you, because they clearly cheated you out of an education.

No need to worry. I got a degree in Electrical Engineering. Suing won't be necessary.

However, you should consider mental health professional help for you anger issues. It's not healthy at all.

Indeed. Why not encourage municipalities to accept more competition between ISPs in their localities?

ISP subscribers would vote with their dollars and their feet and switch to the better deal / performance / reliability, and the market would soon sort itself out: either provide the service levels at the market competitive prices, or depart from that market.

Either way, it would end up being better for the ISP subscribers.

Markets have a more effective, efficient way of dealing with sub-par performance more so than any government, top-down regulation stupidity that needlessly adds to the complexity and hassle fact of life.

Why do you want to give ISPs more power?

Forcing ISPs to compete for customers is a way to reduce their 'power' over customers. If they don't deliver the expected performance at a price point the customer is willing to pay, they lose. Really simple and really effective.

Enforcing some sort of government regulations on ISPs give them the ability to lobby governments for market conditions that favor them. That's more power for the ISPs, not less, and less power to the end user / consumer.

LOLz. That was pretty good.

There is explicit nudity on several Wikipedia articles.

I don't want to give them more power. I see no reason to regulate them as a utility. This brought broandband expansion to a standstill when Obama tried it.

The european model is to force telcom to give other companies access over their lines to take the monopoly out of the infrastructure.
