Meet the ‘protodogs’ — Ice-Age man’s best friend | News | The Times
Ice Age hunter-gatherers were followed around by early forms of man’s best friend, according to evidence found in the remains of 28,500-year-old dog-like creatures.
Studies of the fossilised teeth of so-called “protodogs” found in central Europe showed they had a distinctly different diet to wolves discovered nearby. Archaologists said that food was likely supplied by humans to the first set of animals, shedding light on their domestication.

Dogs evolved from wolf-like mammals & some, like the pit bull, still retain the aggressive behavior of wolves. But following a man who will feed you is the obvious first step toward domestication toward the many diverse breeds we see today.
