Pentagon ordered to halt work on $10bn 'war cloud' project after Amazon protest | Technology | The Guardian

Amazon requested the injunction after alleging that bias from Donald Trump caused the contract to be awarded to Microsoft

A federal court has ordered a temporary halt in Microsoft’s work on a $10bn military cloud contract that Amazon was initially expected to win. Amazon sued in December to revisit that decision, alleging that Donald Trump’s bias against the company hurt its chances to win the project.

Amazon requested the court injunction last month. The documents requesting the block and the judge’s decision to issue the temporary injunction are sealed by the court.

Trump hates Jeff Bezos, who owns the WaPo. Little known, cloud computing is one of Amazon's major business sectors, which is why it was expected to get this contract. Interference by Trump is the issue here.

Since the Republican party has proved itself to be nothing more than a mouthpiece for Trump, Bezos probably has a good case here. Normally Congress makes these decisions but if the Senate is just doing as Trump orders them to do, then there is, indeed, bias.

And we have Moscow Mitch continually telling us he will not sign or approve ANYTHING that will go against what Trump wants.

Two contractors fighting over taxpayer money, meh.

I'm a little surprised they didnt start their bid protest at the GAO instead of the Court of Federal Claims, but I'm sure their lawyers know what they're doing.

The court also ordered Amazon to be ready to pony up $48M in penalties in case it is decided its injunction was wrong.

At a rough guess, I suspect it may have to do with whatever Trump doing causing the dept to violate the Administrative Procedure Act.

And what is it you take from that?

It's a preliminary injunction putting a 10 billion dollar contract on hold.
