CEO defended Facebook’s decision not to ban political ads and said company will ‘stand up for free expression’

Mark Zuckerberg, the Facebook chief executive, has unveiled a new approach to political advertising which he described as a stand for the principles of free speech, but also one that will “piss off a lot of people”.

In a candid discussion at the Silicon Slopes Tech Summit 2020 in Salt Lake City on Friday, Zuckerberg said that since his company is criticized for both what it does and does not do in terms of monitoring use of its platform, it will now support free speech “because in order to be trusted, people need to know what you stand for”.

it's private company. they can do whatever they want. just like how Rush and Sean censor what's on their platforms.
 
Facebook is continually losing ground with users in the teens and twenties demo. It is becoming the AARP of social networks.

and if i were to look, i guess i wouldnt find any liberal messages? nothing from the far left? nothing from fringe left groups that might be lets say just as bad as the list above?

why not just shut down all media? all newspapers? all radio? all tv? all print?

apparently we arent adult enough to change the channel, or ignore messaging that we dont want to see....

i mean book burning cant be far behind, right?

And thats what platforms should do. He is right. About damn time they stood up for themselves and their communities. Free speech is the way to go.
 
Is anyone shocked? There's entirely too much money to be made in ads.

I would support book burnings but I suspect my Kindle has some toxic stuff in it that would be bad for the trees the spotted owls sit in.

It's different than watching TV and changing the channel. If you don't understand why, it's because you don't understand the underlying technology and how this information spreads.

either we are ADULT enough to know how to deal with it, or we arent

you all think we arent....that says more than anything about our younger generation

i remember not too many years ago when the religious right thought pornography was going to ruin this country also

Hefner had started Playboy, the sexual revolution was starting....

We got through it okay....

We will get through this....people need to be aware....that's it....and understand what they consume
