Smell that?

Awhile later my Dad got me this 'toy' computer while I was in high school

Did you already read my "I blew up the old black and white TV so Dad made me help him build a new TV" story?

I started with a Vic-20, then to the Commodore 64. I even swapped out a motherboard on my 64.

After that, it was building my own IBM clones. I really wished I could afford the Atari 800, or the amazing Amiga computer, but you choose your side and evolve from there.

I started out with one Amiga, a 2000 with a NewTek Video Toaster card,

then eventually wound up with four.

Happy Videogaming!

Sounds like you should talk to eohrnberger.

Did you encounter the guy going "why are you using FreeBSD?!?? Linux is trash!! ZFS ZFS ZFS ZFS ZFS ZFS ZFS ZFS"

All I know is, I used to wonder where they got the blueprint for "Comic Book Guy" on The Simpsons until I wandered into some Linux chat rooms. That is when I realized that they based him on some classic Linux chatroom people.

"I am interested in upgrading my 28.8 kilobaud internet connection to a 1.5 megabit fiberoptic T1 line. Will you be able to provide an IP router that is compatible with my token ring ethernet LAN configuration?"

Good nerd joke there, whether you intended it to be or not. ;)

Oh I remember studying system topologies.
About halfway through the Novell stuff I began to notice that the most obvious side effect of my studies was profound sleepiness.

PS: Fiber optic T1????
O-o-o-o-o-KAY alrighty then.

O__o

That's the smell of a fresh Operating System baby! Just breathed life back into my very old 32 bit system. Running like a champ. I love installing a new OS. It's getting harder to find any OS that supports 32 bit anymore though.
Cheap bastard, get a new computer. I'll send you $20. ;)

Its more sentimentality and the love of GNU/linux than anything. We just bought a couple Chromebooks for $99 each as Christmas gifts for family.

Great article from about a year ago talking about 2019 predictions for linux. I've apparently been out of the news loop because a lot of what had already happened was news to me when I read this. Articles like this are what pumps me up about gnu/linux.

5 Linux Predictions for 2019 - OMG! Ubuntu!

Loading up various Linux distros on virtual machines on my new laptop. Having 32 GB of ram and an i7 kinda makes things easy.

Got my goto Linux Mint, but also MX and Manjaro. Was going to try ElementaryOS but it is not free so screw em.

Going to get Kali, Ubuntu (why not) and a few others before making my decision on which to use more actively.

Any distros people can recommend?

A Raspberry PI 4 set to boot from SSD would probably net better performance than an old 32bit system tbh.

A modern toaster would preform better... [emoji16]
